GNEXT PLANS HOME MAKEOVER FOR NIGERIAN NATIONAL FLAG DESIGNER, PA AKINKUNMI.

PA TAIWO AKINKUNMI
HOUSE PRESENTLY
DREAM IDEA
BATHROOM/TOILET

Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi (MON) is presumably a household name in Nigeria being the great intellectual who designed the Nigerian flag at the age of 25 while he studied in London.
His flag design was accepted amongst other designs, for its ingenuity and depth. This undeniably shot Pa Akinkunmi into limelight and enlisted him amongst Nigeria’s heroes and icons.

Now, Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, a man whose ingenious work of creativity we still enjoy each time we gaze at the Nigerian flag, coupled with Parkinson’s disease, lives in an un-befitting state in his Ibadan residence.

A group of young, impact- oriented minds under the cover of GNext Youth Organization have taken it upon themselves to give this great icon’s home a complete makeover.

FUNKE ADESIYAN'S DENIM PARTY AT THE PLACE

FUNKE ADESIYAN
FUNKE ADESIYAN & LYDIA BABATUNDE CEO OF LEE MAGAZINE
RMO & GUESTS

Gloriously  proportioned actress Funke Adesiyan had a denim party a few days ago.  Venue of the party was The Place, along Admiralty Road, Lekki Phase 1. On the bandstand as part of the celebration was Juju artist Dele Taiwo.

Since it was tagged 'Denim party' we assumed all were supposed to be in one form of denim or jeans. The party is part of the Lee Magazine Monthly Celeb Party for the Month of April.  2 of those we recognised at the party were Rasheed Muri-Okunola & Olamide.

From the little we could deduce those at the party must have had great fun.

FRIENDSHIP & BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP; SCOOBY & OSAMA'S blue print

SCOOBY & OSAMA
DIFC BUILDING
LAMBORGHINI AVENTADOR ROADSTER

Those who know the monikers above know very well we are only talking about Dele Dosunmu aka Scooby and his bosom friend and business partner Rilwan Allison aka Osama. That they have been friends and business partners for eons is not something new. They seem to have a perfect understanding of what friendship entails and how to go about doing business together.

This combination seems to working so very well and is really raking in the dough. Osama before he relocated to Dubai, in the UAE was a very well known entrepreneur who used to own and run a very well known bureau de change, he was the go to man for all the money exchange deals on the Island then. He later moved abroad, where we hear he still does the same business and more.

MODE MEN BLACK NIGHT 7- APRIL, 2013- ALL THE HAPPENSTANCES & PICTURES

SEYI SHAY IN TOJU FOYEH

AISHA SHABA & SEYI SHAY
ENE MAYA-LAWANI

This year 2013, marks the 7th anniversary of Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa's labour of love & sweat. It's none other than the brand known to all as Mode Men. Undoubtedly one of the best packaged men's magazine in Nigeria. That the brand is still existing in a country like ours that most often does not support non-criminal and good initiative has been by the grace of God.

So to show to the world, that it has been God all this while, the 7th anniversary edition of the magazine was dedicated to God. A form of thank you for thus far yet he has blessed the brand.

To also mark the 7th anniversary of the brand, the publisher's of the magazine like they usually do had their annual ''Black Night gathering. This year's edition was tagged ''Black Night 7, and venue of choice was the compact hall of the Radisson Blu Hotel, on Ozumba Mbadiwe Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. Unlike how they normally do the event, this particular one was a more intimate, much smaller event, that had only 60 of the friends and supporters and sponsors of the brand in attendance.

We saw a few of those we know, one of who was the longest reigning Miss Nigeria ever, Ene Maya-Lawani, we also saw the likes of Frank Edohor, Moriam Musa, Juliet Morgan, Donald Obaseki, Joseph Edgar, Uche Nnaji of Ouch!, Okey Bakassi, Yinka Davies, Seyi Shay, Amy Ajuonuma, Bobby Karibi-Whyte, Aisha Shaba, Alex Ekubo, Uti Nwachukwu, Taryor Gabriel, Bukky George, Amaechi Okobi, and a host of others.

It was a 'funstatic' & cosy setting, devoid of unnecessary frills. Aisha & Abu were the compere and they did a good straight forward job. Abu spoke about his journey so far in our terrain, Okey Bakassi spoke on the fact that we need to support ourselves and thereafter Seyi Shay gave a sonorously fantastic acapella of one of her great songs; immediately after was an auction, where 2 great paintings by some famous Nigerian artists were auctioned and then an 18 karat Rose Gold leather Chopard and all the proceeds from the auction was in support of the Down Syndrome organization. The auction was fun and interactive and it showed that at least a few Nigerians cared and are their brother's keepers. One of the paintings raised close to half a million. All this was going on while dinner was served.

As was expected of the brand, everyone of the invited guests went home with a gift laden goody bag each in their hands- that had the new edition of the magazine, a Mode Men note pad, a book, many parfum testers from Bond nos. 9, female purses for ladies and small men bags for the guys . It was most definitely a great event. And it was all for just about 2 hours 30 minutes.

Event was sponsored by Bond Nos. 9 Parfum which is just announcing the entrance in Nigeria, courtesy of Essenza.

Please check out the pictures of the event here.

BULL'S EYE BY JOSEPH EDGAR- UTI & ALEX: MY NEW BEST FRIENDS

ALEX EKUBO & UTI NWACHUKWU
JOSEPH EDGAR

When I got the BB message from Abu, the enigmatic Publisher of Mode Men, asking me to be part of the Seventh year anniversary of the magazine at the Raddison Blu Hotel, I knew I was up for an exciting turn. The dress code was as usual different. We were all expected to come in black as if it would be a gathering of kidnappers.

Well as I always do in these celebrity things, I dress simple. I do this because I am not expected to compete with people whose job it is to look good. So to my friend Patrick at Falomo Bus Stop, I ran to, and he gave me a body fitting Polo top. I matched this with my navy blue khaki pants Kalu had sewn for me and completed the look with my favourite Zara wet look loafers and I was ready to wine and dine with the glitteratti.

Immediately I walked in, I saw the very brilliant Yinka Davies. Now this is one Diva I respect with every vein in my body. We had a handshake, I hugged her and took some pictures with her. She remained gracious and took my fawning with characteristic glee. I looked around the room and saw so many interesting people and began to wonder how Abu does it. Abiye Karibi-Whyte and his delectable wife, Aloba and his exotic wife, Seyi Shay, the who wants to be a millionaire guy, with his sofay trouser, Okey Bakassi and so many wonderful people.

But my story today, hmmm, na Alex and Uti o!!! I found myself seated on the same table with these people o.  Kai, these people fine o. Me and my friend Bose Alimi, were just staring. Bose didn't eat throughout from amazement o. Let me start with Alex. I had once seen him at Chivita and I immediately thought he was Brazilian. The skin, the height and the aloofness caught my attention. So seated so close to him, made me feel so ordinary. The boy fine pass Beckham. Boyish, playful and charismatic. I said a little prayer and said hello to him. He immediately responded like we were childhood friends and we started playing like Amaechi and Jonathan.

After sometime, I said my little prayer again and walked up to Uti. Now this is a different story. Seated opposite him, Bose and I had studied him very well o.  The dreads on his head were 56 strands, yes I counted it o. His skin was smooth and chocolatey although covered with light makeup. A slight resemblance to my King Tubaba, made me go further weak in the knees. I squeaked hello and in his smooth voice responded and we had a little business talk.

I took picture with him o and my stupid blackberry battery died as soon as the shot was taken. Well sha, he shook me and I smelt his perfume. I went back to Bose, who asked me about the experience. I told her to go have her own but she shy.

Well, I have read so much about these two guys and have also heard so much. I think these are great guys, who bring sparkle to every gathering. I have watched them from afar at events and see the way they laugh and radiate joy. I simply love them not only for their looks but also for what they represent, which to me is simplicity and love. So talented in what they know how to do best, yet so humble as to play childish pranks that spreads laughter. They are two great guys and I simply admire them and I know dey quick like people, ask Aloba.

The only draw back in the evening was that, just as I was warming up to ask Alex to give me that exquisite suit he was wearing, Bose whispers into my ears, say no be him own. That the dark angry looking Yoruba guy seated beside him was the real owner of the suit and was waiting to collect it. So I respect myself.

Well sha, suit or no suit, Alex and Uti have today won my heart, with their great looks, taste in clothes, but above all their childish innocence and humility. Great guys.

LAGOS!!! ARE YOU READY??? AS SALT 'N' PEPA LANDS IN LAGOS, NIGERIA

The Grammy Award winning group, Salt-N-Pepa, which consists of Cheryl James and Sandy Denton ("Salt" and "Pepa", respectively) are indeed here in Nigeria. The Legends, icons, trailblazers, pioneers, innovators and trendsetters (just a few words often used to describe this group) arrived Muritala Mohammed Airport yesterday evening specially for Rodizzio Entertainment’s DIVAS ROCK concert being organized by Rodizzio Entertainment.

As the first ever female rap crew, Salt-N-Pepa, broke barriers and opened doors wide open that were once closed to women in hip-hop. They gave women a voice in a male dominated industry and transformed the way the music world saw women forever. With the hit songs "Push It," "Tramp,""Shake Your Thang," "Shoop" and "Whatta Man," Salt-N-Pepa would defy everyone's expectations and catapult hip-hop to new levels

“We are happy to be in Nigeria because it gives us an opportunity to connect with our fans out here" said Salt. "When you have a chance to see people outside from where we come from, there's nothing like it in the world."

Outside of the realm of being legends of the hip hop game, Grammy Award winning group, Salt-N-Pepa can also be called "revolutionaries of rap" and "ground breakers of the game." Not only using their mic as a means to make big beats and heads bob, but they also used it as means to get out messages of importance and relevance. From safe sex to independence and respecting yourself as a woman, Salt-N-Pepa saw the urgency and importance of empowering the female race and using their voices through the mic to influence millions with their music.

STYLE 101 AT JULIUS AGWU'S 40TH BIRTHDAY PARTY/BOOK LAUNCH

EBIERE AGWU

People generally love to do dress-up, who wouldn't? So whenever the occasion permits, it's the opportunity many need to dust their wardrobes and come out looking spanking. One major problem we have with many of the Nigerian celebrities, stars et al is that many still need some kinda experts to help them manage their wardrobes and majorly their appearances. We have seen many most often not dressed appropriately for the different occasions/events. Imagine someone wearing a dinner-outfit for a concert or a proper office wear for an event that demands more casual outfit than being overly serious. There are other scenarios too numerous to mention.

As much as we would say that anyway, it is better to over dress than to under-dress, so we would allow some people pass our scrutiny. Julius 'the genius' Agwu hit the good ole' 40 a few weeks ago and decided to mark it with a great party. We heard it was a good one and was very well attended. It was also the occasion to launch a book- 'Jokes Apa...rt' about himself, his journey so far and what has kept him grounded and made him a success. Many came out in their Sunday's best to celebrate him and we have their styles covered for your viewing pleasure.

Check them out!

CHECK OUT THE GRAND COMMANDER OF BAYELSA- HIS EXCELLENCY SIR DIEPREYE ALAMIEYESEIGHA

DIEPREYE ALAMIEYESEIGHA
The grand boss of the boys in Bayelsa, His royally pardoned one- Chief Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyesiegha has been enjoying a new lease of life since after his pardon by the FG. It's like he goes out more openly now, unlike before and why would he not? If you were the one declared a criminal before and the boss now declares you okay after-all wouldn't  you now flaunt your new found stamp of approval?

The Tiger of Bayelsa was one of the special guests of honour at the birthday celebration of one of Nigeria's best comics, in the person of Julius 'the genius' Agwu very recently, where we heard it was a case of Naira rain for the birthday boy, who also used the occasion to launch a book about himself titled ''Jokes Apa RT''.

We heard, though not confirmed, that one of those who made the day very memorable for the birthday boy was Chief Alams like many like to call. A bird whispered into our ears that the former Governor quietly donated a 'paltry' sum of 3 Million Naira as his own contribution on that day.

Who says the boss is broke? He is most definitely not.

SEE WHO WE SAW VERY RECENTLY.............

RUKKY SANDA, TANA OLULANA & YVONNE NELSON

It's none other than Ghanaian bombshell actress Yvonne Nelson. We ran into the gorgeous actress, who would have made a good success at being a model or a beauty queen had she chosen alternative career choice by chance some days back.

She was part of the cast of a new production owned and executive produced by one of Nigeria's top actresses, in the person of Rukky Sanda. They were recording a restaurant scene, 2 of the other cast members were Alex Ekubo and Rukky Sanda. We also saw Tana Olulana & Venita Marie-Akpofure at the location. Though we did't know if the latter 2 were part of the production, all the same they all left together for another location.

Truth be told, Yvonne fine no be small oooooo and in a very natural way at that, devoid of all the ''creaming & toning'' and things, which is what 50% of her colleagues in the industry are into now.

LAOLU & CAROLINA SARAKI IN EXPECTANT MOOD....

When Laolu was still a bachelor he was a man that blazed many trails. But gone are those days of unbridled fun, since he got married sometime ago; The handsome dude has taken to being married like fish in it's right habitat. The man who many gorgeous ladies would have loved to call theirs, went very far away to pick his better half, thereby disappointing not a few who had hoped beyond hope.

The good news we are hearing from the household of the young couple is that his delightsomely gorgeous Spanish wife, Carolina is presently on the 9 months course and that very soon the tiny voice of a new born baby would be filling the couples abode. Expectant dad we hear is already on cloud nine with joy. This joyous news is coming just about 2 years after the couple got married.

The families on both sides are already counting the weeks before the delivery of their new bundle of joy; who if a boy might be named Babatunde.........Saraki.

VAVA VOOM PICTURE OF THE DAY

We don't know who she is, but we were completely mesmerized by her style. It takes major confidence for anyone to leave home dressed like this. We must commend her for being the most confident lady around for this her daring outfit. The beauty of it all is that, she's got the asset to flaunt it, so why not wear what can accentuate all the supernatural packages and assets.

She's made us to understand that style is majorly about confidence, knowing what suits one and going for it, not minding whose ox is gored.

For sheer confidence and 'funstastic' fashion sense we give her A1 plus. Those 'poppers' are not from here at all and for that too, we give her triple A plus. Her tailor must have graduated from the Parsons school of fashion, just check out that peek-a-boo and those burgundy gemstones so very well-arranged for maximum effect. It's either that part was deliberately torn by hand or that the sheer power of her poppers tore it. Either way, the pair or the cleavage is a sure eye candy.

Ain't she hotttt?????????

JIM IYKE'S UNSCRIPTED LAUNCH at THE FOURPOINTS BY SHERATON

JIM IYKE & NADIA BUARI

NADIA BUARI

DAKORE AKANDE
CHELSEA EZE

ANNIE IDIBIA

So sorry that we have been away for a while, it was due to some little technical issues. Now we are back and really on the grind. A few weeks ago, one Nigeria's most prominent and most consistent actors in the person of the one and only 'Jim Iyke' had the launch of his new reality show produced by AfricaMagic entertainment.
The venue of the launch was the FourPoints By Sheraton Lagos. We were there to cover the happenstances. If the snippets of the show we watched was anything to go by, we believe this might be one of the most successful reality series so far. It was vintage Jim Iyke in your face, like never seen before. Just like the man of the hour said when he was called to give a little insight into what we are to expect, ''he said it was for the viewing public to get to know him more, have a peek into his life and lifestyle and all he is about''. He went on to say, ''People should watch, with an open mind and not pre-judge him because of what has been said or created about his persona.

A few of his colleagues and others were on hand to support. Some of those we saw were the likes of Dakore Akande, Nadia Buari, Annie Idibia, Ufuoma McDermott, Chelsea Eze, Lolo, Yaw & Osas Ighodaro, Emmy Collins,Innocent Idibia, Kayode Peters, Pade Bowler, Kiran & Jyoti M, Elizabeth Eldimaa, Munachi Abii, Evita Mousalli, Ezinne Chinkata, Veronica Ebie-Odeka, Funbi Ogunbanwo, Gbenro Ajibade, Gideon Okeke, Bovi Ugboma, Ijeoma Agu, Lola Ogunbadejo and a host of others.
