COUNTDOWN TO NFW 2011-THIS YEAR'S THEME IS-GOING GREEN!

All arrangements towards the successful hosting of the Nigeria Fashion Week 2011 are on. Scheduled for 16^th – 19^th November at the prestigious MUSON Centre, the NFW is organised by Legendary Gold Limited in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Culture & Tourism and the World Fashion Organization.

The Nigeria Fashion Week will feature daily fashion shows, exhibition/buyers & sellers lounges, workshops and after-event parties. The opening ceremony will begin at 10 am, Thursday, 17^th November, with a red carpet. Each day will feature two shows, the first to begin at 12 noon, while the evening show will begin at 6pm.

The theme of the Nigeria Fashion Week 2011 is ‘Going Green’. This is with the goal of drawing attention to climate change issues by encouraging values that will ensure a sustainable environment. To this end, one of the shows of the fashion week ‘Going Green Collection’ will be dedicated to drawing awareness to climate change. During this show segment, designers will be made to use recycled materials to prepare their collection.

Already, lots of designers within and outside Nigeria have signified their interest to show their collection at the Nigeria Fashion Week 2011.  

Over 32 local designers, as well as international ones are already on ground, expected to showcase their works. Some of these include Lagos-based Frank Osodi, O’makdesigns (Washington DC), Aremu Couture (Johannesburg), Ama Glow (Amsterdam), and Amakdesign (London). Others include Zizi Cardow (Lagos), Beldies La Mode (Abuja), Chrystalix (Cameroun), Fred Eboka, and a host of others.

The Nigeria Fashion Week is an affiliate event to the World Fashion Week organised by the World Fashion Organization. To this end, the president of the World Fashion Week, Paco De Jaimes will lead other top officials of the World Fashion governing body and International Fashion Press to Lagos for the Nigeria Fashion Week.

The last edition of the Nigeria Fashion Week was declared open by Her Excellency, Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan, first lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This year, the special guest of honour is the president of the World Fashion Week. The three-day epoch-making event will be declared open by the Honourable Minister of Tourism, Culture & National Orientation, Chief Edem Duke.
