HON. ADEYEMI IKUFORIJI |
SENATOR GANIYU SOLOMON |
Many names are been bandied around already though the election that would chose who to replace the incumbent is still far off. Many are of the opinion that the choice of who to replace the current action Governor lies solely with the Asiwaju of Lagos, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu. But our findings shows that it might not be that easy.
Already as we speak, much politicking is already ongoing in the background, so as to position those who feel they deserve to be the next to vie for the post. But as much as the party in power in Lagos is planning ahead for the next election. The main opposition party is not resting in their bid also to wrest Lagos away from the party on the throne right now.
MUIZ BANIRE |
Many names have cropped up in recent times, some of those we have heard about are the likes of former Commissioner for Environment and a top Chieftain of the ACN, in the person of Alhaji Muiz Banire, also on that list is Senator Ganiyu Solomon, a close ally of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, another is Obafemi Hamzat, the current Commissioner for Works in the administration of His excellency, Babatunde Raji Fashola, another also is Mr. Tunde Fowler, the current Tax boss in Lagos, he is the boss of the Lagos State Internal Revenue, another prominent name that has cropped up is that of the Permanent Secretary, Lands in Lagos State, Barrister Hakeem Muri-Okunola, who is the youngest amongst all the names being mentioned, another name we have heard in passing is that of another Commissioner in the present administration, in the person of Gbolahan Lawal. Mr. Lawal used to be the ADC to Asiwaju before and his lot has grown ever since then. One other name that used to be more prominent before was that of the current Speaker of the house in Lagos State, in the person of Honourable Adeyemi Ikuforiji, but that name has gone to the back-burner since the scandal on the mismanagement of a colossal N7 billion. With many of these prominent names coming up daily, many do not know where the pendulum would swing in the case of the Asiwaju, who many believes holds the aces. And just like the Asiwaju did before in his choice of BRF, he might go ahead to surprise everyone again, by totally overlooking all those jostling for the post presently.
But one very influential person many might be overlooking right now, but whose support might be very important for whoever should emerge to run for the election as the boss of Lagos in the next election, is the current incumbent. As much as people might not be looking his way, his say would be of utmost importance. Also ready to spring a major surprise as long as they put their house in order is the PDP, but their surprise would depend on them choosing a fantastic personality to represent them.
Some are of the opinion that ACN or would it be APC then, might not have it so easy this time around ooo. This might be because of some actions taken by this current Government that some might not have liked.
Time would tell anyway. And election time would soon be here. So lets wait and see.
All these guys are thieves now, maestro man
ReplyDeleteFrom Fowler - if fowler becomes the governor of Lagos state am sure he wl be holding his tea party in dubai every Monday, if he could spend so much money on his daughters wedding bn just LIRS helmsman, Ah this one wl run Lagos down in few hrs no be joke o
Muiz ke? Muiz na ogbologbo now, a man who took leave of absentia from Unilag as a lecturer to become commissioner years ago and up till now he stl gets paid by Unilag, stl get to keep his apartment in Unilag staff quarters, these guys are greedy folks now
Fashola has to put his thinking cap on well before handing over in 2015 otherwise all these loafers wl run what he has toiled day/night for n Lagos down in 1 day o
In short, I go come back, I dey night duty
HYBUnny
Tundefowler keee he will become gov of woman affairs ~ all these people have no credibility what soo ever they re busy stealing and stealing we need someone new someone with credibility someone like us who will listen to us ~ its time for asiwaju to stop runing lagos we all know he collects 50 percent of lagos earnings ask the tax man ~ we want a change
ReplyDeleteAsiwaju will never pick Fowler, Fowler that gave Asiwaju some hundreds of millions of naira to be a senator that Asiwaju had to say "aduru eleyi lori je ninu owo tax payers nikan".
ReplyDeleteTinubu is also greedy but then he's got some sense and he's truly passionate about Lagos growth.
Other names listed, Banire seems more of an option. Otherwise, a totally new person...
HYBUnny; it's not Fashola's decision to make. That decision lies solely with the Lion of Bourdillon - Asiwaju Senator Emeritus Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
ReplyDeleteAll these names will fall by the wayside. Fowler? He will clean out Lagos and betray Tinubu. Plus BAT would rather give it to a Moslem and a Christian as DG. Banire; lost out since. Solomon is too strong minded and BAT won't be able to control him. HMO? He's worse with women than Fowler. He may get someone quiet like Ashafa or even Obafemi Hamzat.
I can't see PDP wrestling Lagos from ACN or APC.
Ashafa is not young anymore. A younger person prob in his 40s is the next governor. Yes, a totally fresh person. All those listed aren't fresh and will not let ojuyobo control them.
ReplyDeleteLoyalty matters and for Ashafa he will keep the oath and do what his oga says. Age shouldn't be a problem.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see Maestromedia's blog witches Aproko, Gbogbo bigs girlz talking good. Waiting for what Mama born girl and Me again will say.
ReplyDeleteI started to fear them after they "showed" Paula, Keke and Ayo.
Anon 11.19am, you're a fool and worse that those you called blog witches cos you've crammed names of blog commenters and their comments. You should be afraid of yourself for all the info about Paula, Ayo and Keke you and your frenemies let out. Obviously you know the 3 to single out their names. There won't be a second time...
ReplyDelete@Fan yes I know it's solely ojuyobo's final decision but one thing u shd know is that he's a baddest gbewiri and wl not want a competitor which all these guys are
ReplyDeleteHe'll prefer to be stealing all and look for someone that wl be dealing wt d crumbs
Anyway 2015 is here, na here we go dey now see how far
One thing I know Tinubu wl not sell Lagos, even if he tries it, Lagos wl be a bad market he no go see am sell
HYBunny
All these mentioned politicians have nothing over Prince Gbolshan Lawal the present commissioner for Agric and 8 years ADC to Tinubu. He is young, calm, intelligent and well connected, check out is works on Agric and Cooperative, he has learnt alot from both Tinubu and BRF and he's probably the only pure lagosian among the mentioned. Most importantly he the problems and also knows the solutions.....A.B
ReplyDeleteWho's gbolshan lawal? The name is GBOLAHAN LAWAL. Yes I agree with you, his name has been ringing bells too. I personally think he's too calm, but because he's really close with BAT, his chances is equally high as Ashafa. I don't know if he's that close with BRF though. I know he's well liked and respected. We wait snd see. ...T.l
ReplyDelete@A.B get your spellings right. Anyway, Gbolahan lawal is another brand of brf, he doesn't talk much but can surely get the job done.....fatai
ReplyDeleteI think the race is between Ashafa., Gbolahan lawal, GOS and Banire, all of them except GOS are BAT boys. But realistically, it will wine down to Gbolahan and Ashafa with gbolahan having a slightly decent tracked record.....bj
ReplyDelete@ bj it's not going to be a easy decision for anyone to make, I agree all of them are asiwaju's boys but I think brf is going to want to show he's the incumbent. I just know it's not going to be as simple as people are thinking. I prefer gbolahan or banire, but people are saying banire might not be interested. .....people
ReplyDeleteAll well said and nice analysis of these good guys of lagos but I want to tilt a bit to muiz and gbolahan. In muiz lagos will have a no nonsense administrator, his activities as the helm of affiars at the environment ministry, he actually ensured that issues related to that ministry are promptly dealt with and thus we have a moderate flood problem also muiz is a lawyer he know to act within the purview of the law ...eko
ReplyDeleteIn gbolahan lawal I think we have an allrounder, I remember his role during the regime of BAT, he was adc per excellence, his knowledge of security of lagos is tight and his coming back as the SSA special project brought about the biggest youth emperwerment we have witnessed in the state for so long, the agric youth emperwerment where I think gov fashola really highlighted during the second term campaigns. He now head the almost forgotten agric ministry where he has turned it round to a vibrant ministry, with world bank and other international bodies are flooding lagos with all sort of projects. He has inaugurated all sort of farmers assisted projects. I also think he has a good educational background too .... eko
ReplyDelete@eko; You seem very vast in Lagos state politics but rememberbTinubu is from Lagos West, while Fashola is from Lagos Central; Hamzat and Ipaye are from Lagos West and Central, respectively.Out of the frontline candidates, Ashafa, who represents Lagos East Senatorial District, is the most favoured, based on the zoning system as Solomon is from the Lagos West District, which produced Tinubu...g
DeleteWell can only speculate on the candidate the party might field however so, we r trying to highlight the quality of individual candidate. It is also important to mention that the chairman of the party has been out claiming that the party does not operate zoning system. A good vibrant candidate is all that is needed to continue the good work of brf. An haculian task. ..eko.
DeleteThis is for your information eko;The dream of Senator Ganiyu Solomon to succeed Governor Babatunde Fashola in 2015 had a set back when the traditional rulers in Lagos said that he is not going to succeed Fashola as the governor. The Oba of Lagos, HRH Oba Rilwan Akiolu said that those parading themselves as the next governor of the state are day dreaming, adding that it is only God who will determine who is going to be next governor after Fashola. Oba Akiolu stated this when he was reelected as the chairman of the Council of Obas in Lagos state, According to him, efforts should be geared towards searching for somebody who would continue in the same pace with the good developmental works going on in the state by the administration of Fashola.
ReplyDeleteWhy all of a sudden people are now talking about GBOLAHAN LAWAL, have I missed something? ...oba
ReplyDeleteGo eko, you have said it all. If gbolahan's corner is any good he can succeed brf, he has achieved loads in few years. Gos or no gos lagosians are now aware. Ashafa might have money but it won't be enough in this coming saga. Tinunbu and brf must agree though. ... folake
ReplyDeleteI will vote for any one who can improve on security, poverty and youth empowerment, it look like gbolahan is that man, eko can you please compare gbolahan and banire and blog your opinion? Thanks. ...mk
ReplyDelete@mk, like I said banire is a good leader, a sound attorney and a no nonsense administrator. All these can be seen at during his years at the cabinet and even now as the legal adviser to the party. While gbolahan activities could be trace back to his works as the adc for almost 8yrs. It is also worth mentioning the transformations at mins agric, any one conversant with lagos state activities could testify to how moribund the ministry was before gbolahan. I recently learnt he has masters in the prestigious SOAS (school of oriental and Africa studies. ) eko
ReplyDeleteGuys I think it more certain for Hamzat than any one you've been mentioning, gbolahan might have a better record but it really depend on brf, Ashiwaju and party leaders......more money
ReplyDeleteCan anyone blog who's more educated among all these guys....abi
ReplyDeleteLagos is too big for any half educated fellow to be aspiring for the state highest political post. Most of these names are well and soundly educated in best schools both here and overseas. At least those that we av been talking about. ....eko.
ReplyDelete@ eko:This is my own analysis, the party needs to work with the interests of other stakeholders who are involved in the ongoing merger talks. The party has to do more on enlightenment strategy to convince the electorate that some of the recently enacted laws are in the peoples interest. However, there are a couple of people who have publicly declared their governorship ambitions and those that are doing so either by proxy or by body languages.Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju SolomonGaniyu Olanrewaju Solomon popularly called GOS by his admirers is, currently the Senate Minority Whip. He declared his governorship ambition on One-on-One programme of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), believing he has what it takes to govern Lagos State. He appears to be the most experienced among the aspirants having been an elected Local Government Chairman, once a member of the House of Representatives and now in the Senate for the second term. He is from the West Senatorial District, a district that can produce the next governor.Muiz BanireDr. Muiz Banire is the current National Legal Adviser of the ACN. He joined ex-governor Bola Tinubu’s cabinet at 32 and served for 8 years as Commissioner for Transport and later of the Environment. A very smart, intelligent and a strong party loyalist, Banire as clout, he commands respect and he is a grassroots mobilizer. The diminutive politician is also from the western axis of Lagos State as Solomon. Cumulatively he has put in 12 years in the service of Lagosians as commissioner.Obafemi HamzatDr. Quadri Obafemi Hamzat is the son of the respected ACN leader, Alhaji Olatunji Hamzat, now a monarch. The brilliant scholar was the pioneer Commissioner for Science and Technology, the ministry he used to midwife the miracle that saved the state from losing money to ghosts through the famous Oracle. He was later appointed Commissioner for Works, a position that was left vacant for four years after the exit of Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the state of Osun. Keen watchers see Hamzat as one who would balance the equation regarding the interests of Tinubu and Fashola.Political watchers would not be surprised if he succeeds his boss, Fashola, because of his versatility and experience that earned him the portfolio of Science and Technology in August 2005, a position he held till June 2011 before his present office.Gbenga AshafaBareehu Olugbenga Ashafa, former permanent secretary in the ministry of lands is now a Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District in the Senate. He is also being considered for the number one job in Lagos. He commands respect in the party, where he is regarded as a levelheaded individual who could serve as bridge between the elite and the masses. Critics say he needs to spend another term in the Senate for more experience but that notion comes into insignificance when related to Governor Fashola who was never in the National Assembly but became a reference point in Nigeria as far as performance is concerned.Going by where he comes from, Ashafa may be considered because the Ibeju/Lekki axis of the state has never occupied the office of governor in the state....adekola
ReplyDeleteGuys i think you have been shallow minded, what about people like Ikuforiji, obanikoro, ogundiimu, dosumu, folami, salis and fowler, can you really rule them out?...femo
ReplyDelete@adekola, brilliant analysis thanks. However so, the current popularity waves of some of this undeclared contestants can not be left without mentioned. Majority of them are brilliant administrators. Although they have not come out like distinguished senator Gos but one can tell from their moves that they are equally highly interested in the position. ...eko
ReplyDeleteThanks eko....can you blog your sincere opinion on commissioner femi hamzat. Do you really think he has a chanc? And, if not gbolahan, then who is? .....adekola
ReplyDeleteI have a very close relationship with gos and ashafa and regarding the guber, I haven't seen any other persons as ambitious and determined like the two of them. I really think the race is between them.....funso
ReplyDeleteHi guys, is it true that this blog site is owned by lagos state government? .........aremo
ReplyDelete@adekola, am kind of flattered with your request of my sincere opinion of obafemi hamzat. Anyway, I strongly believe that hamzat is a very good and hardworking person. The kind of person that have a very systematic approach to problem solving and a very good team builder/player. If given the opportunity to lead the state, there is no atom of doubt in my mind that he will do a good job. His chances; like we have all be saying politics is a very unpredictable game, hamzat father leads a very strong version of ACN till he went to his home state to become a monarch. I am not sure how the version card and the obaship of baba hamzat will play out, lets wait and see.
ReplyDeleteOn gbolahan, himself is a good guy, young brilliant and very knowledgable bloke. He is well accepted by all the versions of the party. He has a vast knowledge of lagos politics and a good achiever. I believe majority of lagosians are calling for him haven seen what he has done in terms of employment opportunities, empowerment for youths, housing for farm settlers and attraction of international bodies to lagos agric sector and also because he his a full blown lagos origin. If all these will make the party to anoite him is another contention. The race is however not between these two alone, lots of good guys are still out there.....eko
@ eko: thanks for sharing your options, up till recently that people started blogging their opinion on gbolahan, I never thought he was in the race, but reading your blog and other blogers on this site has really given me another way of looking at things. It's going to be really interesting to see how the whole thing turns out....adekola
ReplyDeleteWith the security situation of the country at the moment considering the state of emergency declared in some state, one tend to wonder if security of life and properties won't take a front line in the choosing of the next governor. Since the governor is also the cheif security of the state. ...eko

Interesting profile, the question is how can Mr Hamzat deal with challenges such as unemployment, insecurity and youth empowerment currently facing Lagos State. We have read about some of the achievement of other guys like the Commissioner of Agriculture in this regard. ..ngok
ReplyDeleteCan someone blog what commissioner hamzat achieved all these years in government office. I don't even think his name should be mentioned among potential lagos state governor. We still have to check if he's really a true lagosian considering the fact that his father was recently crowned in ogun state?......jojo
ReplyDelete@ ngok, it appears all road is leading to Gbolahan if he's interested......jojo
ReplyDelete@ jojo, dont forget bat is in the shoes, so it really doesn't matter whether or not someone is a true lagosian.......tope
ReplyDeleteIt's still too early for anyone to say all roads are leading to Gbolahan......oloto @jojo
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know for sure if gbolahan is interested in becoming the next lagos state governor. From reliable sources, he seems not to be showing any interest...k
ReplyDeleteHmm!....All well said guys, but let wait and see.
ReplyDeleteThe information from a very reliable source is that BAT has actually endorsed Commissioner Gbolahan Lawal as the successor for BRF, but Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon and Commissioner Femi Hamzat are still having problems with the decision. For BRF, it doesn't matter who succeeds him so long as the person is generally accepted by the party and he's ready to continue from where he stops. BRF would have preferred Hamzat, but Gbolahan is the more sellable and probably the only ACN candidate that can pull enough votes to defeat any candidates from other parties, considering the fact the people like Obanikoro are still are waiting and would definitely take advantage of any weak candidate coming out of ACN. Hamzat's problem is his father - a crownd king in Ogun, can a proving Ogun indigen wins Governorship election in Lagos State? Not this day and age. ......funsho
ReplyDeleteI googled Gbolahan Lawal and read his profile and all his achievements since he has been the head of Agric ministry, I was surprised, the man has actually done alot on few months and he's also very educated, I think he also attended Harvad. ...hmm
ReplyDeleteHey guys, it seems the race to state house marina is heating up o, I sincerely wish people's opinion and wishes would count and the party will pick a more popular candidate. It look as if gbolahan lawal is very sellable and very popular, he have an all round quality, one will be forced to like him and accord him a huge respect once one takes time to read through his profile and google him. He look like one of those people that believe in the saying that when your work or action is speaking for u, all u do is keep quiet. For me I am more concern on a candidate that that also have security experience, one can only imagine what would have happened if BRF is not security minded. It shouldn't be about the candidate that is out there spending the most money or proclaiming the do or die reason. Eko
ReplyDeleteA more dug into gbolahan lawal profile will reveal more than just Harvard, there is a mention of courses at Cambridge, world bank Institute, the isreal school of security and conflict management and the prestigious SOAS in london.
