Viv La Resistance is a Nigerian based Luxe Women’s wear and Accessories Brand, the Brand is centered around the marrying  of Fashion and Art, The Freedom of self-expression, channeled through unique, contemporary Clothing and Accessories, accomplished through the use of a unique mix of Contrasting Fabrics, Vintage and Modern Cuts, Silhouettes, Superior Craftsmanship and Attention to detail.

Viv La Resistance pieces have been described as bold, unapologetic, built from a fresh concept and an intriguing point of view, championing the movement of a woman who engages with fun refreshing fashion, whilst choosing to stand out in a crowd.

Mo Alatise, the Creative Director behind the brand has always had a love for fashion. It began right from an early age admiring her mother’s fabulous dresses and accessories, making clothes for her Barbie dolls, going through different fashion phases in her teenage years customizing her clothes and accessories, she says ‘I always knew from an early age I was going to do something in the Arts’

Upon completion of her University education with a Degree in International Business from the University of Hull, in the UK, Mo Alatise made the decision to follow her passion and enrolled for courses in Fashion Design at London College of Fashion and Central St. Martins, following which she moved back to Nigeria and proceeded to fulfill her lifelong dream, when she launched the Fashion Brand, Viv La Resistance (“VLR”) in January 2010.

To Mo, individuality is at the heart of fashion. She describes the Brand as Constantly Evolving, Emotional, a Marriage of Fashion and Art.

The Inspiration behind the Collection Kaleidoscope- 'A Trip’ came from the marrying of a series of visual and physical stimulants and a need for a new medium of expression, born out of necessity.

The Theme for the Collection came as a step-like process, where one stimulant birthed the other.

The main Inspiration behind the Collection came from  the works of one of my favorite graffiti artist and film maker, MR BRAINWASH, Having experimented with graffiti myself at a younger age, I have always been fascinated by the merging of paint unto textured surfaces, color and grit.

A Need born out of Necessity

The most recent Collection of MR BRAINWASH is a visual pleasure. I stared at each painting and piece every day for so long that it all became a blur from which a mixture of patterns started to form in my head thus, Designer became paint artist and I set out on a number of ‘painting experiments’ employing the use of our traditional tye/dye (ADIRE) techniques and after many painstaking try’s and samples the Custom Viv La Resistance prints featured in the collection was birth.

This Collection sees the brand growing and evolving, while still staying true to its original aesthetics with the introduction of Custom Hand Painted/dyed Prints, Rich Luxe Hand-Woven Tassel Aso-oke, Delicate Chiffons, 100% pure Luxury Cotton and Woven textured Jersey, details include play on fabrics, textures, layering, cut outs and patches, mixed with both Modern and vintage cuts, all while retaining its edge and individuality, ensuring each piece is a standout.

I'm awfully proud of this Collection and the way it has been sustainably produced as 90 percent of the materials used in production were locally sourced and dyed using centuries old traditional Adire/Batik dyeing techniques

BUNMI OYENIYI GETS SET TO LAUNCH UNVEIL MUP

The gorgeous lady behind the Unveil brand- Bunmi Oyeniyi is getting set to take over the market again. She did it several years ago when she launched what has come to be known in the market as the best brushes for makeover artists. Many still testifies to that fact that the Unveil make-up brushes has no rival in the market. 

Not long after that success, the well-known make-over artist, who we hear is one of the top 5 in the industry, had another first, she opened a Government approved vocational studies School, where students are taught the art of make-up artistry, etiquette and elocution amongst the several courses of study. The school- The Unveil Institute, which is about a year and a half old, as done extremely well. Helping to set many on the path of entrepreneurship and glorious success. 

Moving on from all that, Bunmi we hear is set to launch into the market, her own exclusive make-up products. The range is called Unveil MUP; the MUP refers to make-up products. It took the whole of 3 years of research and hard work to get to this point from what we have gathered, to make sure that the quality of the products are not short-changed, the MD of Unveil had to travel from China, to the UK and to the US, testing many products, wanting to make sure the products are of the highest standards and good for all skin-types. Until finally the best choice of manufacturers were found in the US. It is the same company that produces for some of the best brands in the market, known by all. 

So come the end of June 2012 at a venue in Ikeja, Lagos. The new entrant into the make-up industry- UNVEIL MUP would be launched to a lot of fanfare. In the range are about 40 different shades of ''smackers'' that's lipsticks, there are about 13 shades of ''Glaze of Lights'' which is the name for the lip-glosses, 52 shades of ''Eye Silhouettes'' that’s eye shadows, over 13 shades of ''Cheek Glow'' which is the name for their blushers, 5 shades of ''Smog'' another name for foundations, powders are called ''Face Glow'' and they come in 3 shades, the high definition Mascara's come in 2 colours, the lip-definer another name for lip pencil comes in 12 colours and lastly the ''Eye Intensifier'' which is the inner eye rim pencil comes in 10 different colours, not forgetting the brow pencil.

All the products come in very exotic and playful colours named after admirable things we have come to love.

Award winning actress Halima Abubakar- she's won several awards in the last few months, who is one of the most sculpted (Body shape-wise) in the industry- Her shape is award winning also, was a year older yesterday- Saturday, June 15, 2012. To mark the day, she invited very few of her friends to a birthday dinner. In case you weren't invited, it's because you are not one of the important ones.

Those who were there, had an over load of fun from what we gathered, birthday girl herself who is a noted philanthropist was the epitome of gorgeousness in her beautiful sun-flower yellow dress, the party venue was Chocolate Royale on the Island. We say Mr & Mrs. Tuface & Annie Idibia, Susan Peters, Amaka Ononibaku, Geraldine Ejiofor & few others at the event.

ABDULSALAM & MARYAM BELGORE'S WEDDING CEREMONY. PART 2- The Wolimat

We cannot stop talking about this wedding ceremony. Like we have already said many times over, it is one Ilorin town would not forget for a longwhile. It would take something extraordinary to top this wedding ceremony, it was like the whole of Ilorin, both the young and the old all came together very happily to pay homage to the much loved Islamic Cleric- Sheikh  Sulaiman Farooq Onikijipa, whose first daughter- Maryam was getting wedded to one of the sons of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, in the person of Retired Justice Alfa Belgore.

Before the wedding proper could happen, the duo - Maryam & her then husband to be Abdulsalam had to do what the Muslims call the Wolimat, which is a graduation sort of from the Quranic school, meaning that those who do the wolimat must have finished reciting the Holy Book- The Quran. For the faithfuls, it is a compulsory  thing to do. So a day to her wedding fatiha, the gorgeous bride had a very colorful wolimat.  The happy bride in the midst of her friends, was led to the venue of the wolimat, where in front of many top clerics who had come to the wedding from far and near, recited portions of the Holy Book with gutso to the admiration of the hundreds gathered at the venue. Afterwards she was acknowledged to have done very well, she later went round to many of the important personalities to recite the Quran to them individually, chief amongst those she had to go to see was the Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Majesty- Alhaji Ibrahim Kolapo Sulu Gambari, who after listening to the bride's recitation, blessed and prayed for her well-being and the success of the wedding. Much of what was done on this particular day, was the recitation, she also went to the house of her father-in-law, who received her very happily and afterwards presented her a very beautiful Quran. Just before going to her father-in-law's house, the gorgeous bride, paid her husband to be a quick visit, also to recite a portion of the Quran.

Every once in a while, we would shift our attention away from the gorgeous ladies and we would look out for standout dudes or men, who for one reason or the other are just the right package. So just the same way we try to celebrate the ladies tagging them- our hot delicious candies. We would call this one’s our many adonis ''Blokes on the Block''.

Our first ever Bloke on the Block needs no special intro- he is known to all and by all as Jim Iyke. He is a noted Nollywood personality, an entrepreneur, a car buff, a man of style and a look good addict. He has paid his dues in the entertainment industry and has continually being a recurring decimal in the industry. At a point, he veered towards music, though nothing extraordinary came out of that. He was recently spotted in beautiful Banjul, Gambia showing off his rock solid body. Here is Jim Iyke- our bloke on the block.

Lagos|Nigeria, June 14 2012.  Empire Mates Entertainment, Nigeria’s premier music label has announced the launch of its highly anticipated all star album titled Empire Mates State of Mind.

The 22 tracked LP, which boasts of some of Nigeria’s finest artists such as Banky W, WizKid, Skales, Niyola and more, promises to be the album to beat in 2012 and beyond.

Speaking at a media event in Lagos on Friday June 15, CEO of EME, Banky Wellington, reiterated the music label’s commitment to providing only the hottest and the best music to its teeming fans. “We consider it a privilege for us to do this for our fans and we’ve worked with some of the finest artists, DJ’s, producers, directors in Nigeria and beyond on this album. Wiz, Skales, our first lady, Niyola, Basketmouth, Masterkraft, Legendary Beats, Spellz, Sarz, Shizzy,  KidConnect with special guest appearances from award winning comedian Basketmouth, Shaydee, Ghana based rapper, XO Senavoe and US based singing sensation, Rotimi and so many others. Meanwhile, Banky W has also been announced as an Olympic torch bearer to herald the forthcoming Olympic games in London alongside some other outstanding Nigerian celebrities: Kanu Nwankwo, Funke Akindele and Steve “Yaw” Onu. He will be the first Nigerian singer to be honoured in this way and will be carrying the torch at the Olympic Torch Relay holding at Coventry on July 1^st 2012.

Banky’s protégé and label mate, Wizkid, has also been having a superlative year. Not only has he scored an exclusive one year endorsement deal with popular drinks giant, Pepsi, he is also a nominee in this year’s BET Awards (Best African Act) which will hold at the Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles USA.

Top DJs unite For Special Summer Edition of Jimmy's Jump Off to hold on July 1st, 2012

African Premium Dj; Cool Dj Jimmy Jatt is set to shut Lagos a.k.a Lasgidi down with the Summer Edition of his Annual DJ Concert 'Jimmy's Jump Off'. Last year, The star studded event took place at Get Arena, Lekki featuring who is who in the entertainment industry and a host of Top Djs.It remained one of the most talked about event for months.

This year's  Special Summer  Edition promises to be bigger and better with loads of surprises and performances by Top Nigerian Artistes and Top flight Djs from Radio to Club and concert Djs.

WELCOME TO KIZA DUBAI- THE ULTIMATE PAN AFRICAN RESTAURANT LOUNGE

Africa, Nigeria registered her major presence in the tourist capital of the UAE recently with the opening of a 1st class Pan African restaurant/Lounge called KIZA. The brand name is an Angolan word which means community and from what we hear about the place since the doors were opened, it has become a convergence point  sort of for all the lovers of everything African. Imagine, Pounded Yam & Egusi or Ayemase rice or even the world famous Jollof rice served with assorted meat (orisirisi) being served in a fantastic environment,  or just try to imagine you eating first class African delicacies from the West of Africa (Ghana, Sierra Leone, Senegal etc)  in 5-Star ambiance, then you will be able to get what we are trying to describe.

The new place is said to be the brainchild of 4 friends- Lukman, Dele, Seun & Ridwan, who are  said to be very well-known business personalities.

The idea behind the joint from what we learnt is to have a place where the growing African community in Dubai and those who come in to Dubai every once in a while can call their own, eat as if they are at home, drink and have fun amongst their own like they would have had back home, in the classiest of places you can dream about.   Though the joint is opened to business now and doing exceptionally well, we hear top people like Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, Dejare Adegbenro, Obafemi Martins, Mustafa Chike-obi the AMCON Boss have visited and commended the place. The official opening is upcoming soon, we hear sometime in September, 2012 and we hear its going to be a big party, that would have a lot of who is who in Dubai in attendance, coupled with some other celebrities from Lagos, Nigeria, the UK and the US.

LARRY ONUEGBU VS. D BANJ- WHAT'S GOING ON?

D-banj no doubt is one of Nigeria's authentic stars, his contract with the G.O.O.D Music label is a testament to that fact, and he seems to be living it up really big, the cars, the entourage, the hangers-on and wait for it- the ego. We can't blame him for that; it's a normal thing in that part of the industry, the more the recognition, the more the ego.

Larry Onuegbu on his part owns one of the most exciting Night club/Lounge in Lagos. Auto Lounge is as fantastic as they come, located at the Junction between, Adeola Odeku and Agoro Odiyan on the Island, it's a fantastic funspot, apart from the Club business he also owns a first class car mart, that sells some of those humongous and sexy machines (cars) of which dreams are made of. His clientele list reads the who is who; little boys don't ride Rolls Royce Phantoms and Ghosts or Maserati, Bentleys, Maybachs etc. 

From the little description above, its very obvious that both men are well known and most definitely have crossed each others part many times over, Larry owns a club and always hosts events, with many celebrities, stars etc as guests. D-banj is a Nigerian superstar, who most definitely is a Nightclub regular. So both can't claim not to know each other at all. 

So what's the story nowwwwww? Dateline was Wednesday, June 13, 2012; venue was the Auto Lounge Night Club/ Lounge in Abuja, FCT.  D-banj had apparently gone to the club to have fun with a few of his friends, there was much to drink as usual and plenty of back-slapping, suddenly some of those at the club, heard the club owner- Mr. Larry Onuegbu telling D-banj and his friends to immediately leave his club, not one to embarrass himself, the star and his people were said to have left the club immediately.

Bringing us to ask the question, what was it, they could have gone amiss, to warrant Larry demanding D-banj to leave his club? We couldn't get across to both parties to confirm what went wrong. But according to someone who should know, Larry was said to have been pissed that D-banj was involved in an altercation at his club, so he decided to kick him out.

CAN THIS BE KIM K OR WHO ?

Can this picture of a gorgeous looking (from the back) lady be that of our everly delicious looking Kanye West's bombshell- Kim Kardashian? No one really knows. The picture is said to have been tweeted accidentally by Kanye and as soon as the uproar began was immediately removed.

No one from any of the camps has come out to say anything yet. But what do you all think?

K-SWITCH (THE PRODUCT) GETS A MERCEDES BENZ CLS

How do we say this, without sounding somehow? There seems to be the need to pass across a message, first was the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date also known as the Presidential Watch to Davido, now it's the Mercedes Benz CLS, we also hear that there is a search to get the right sort of property for K-switch who we hear is now known as ''the PRODUCT'' somewhere in an estate very near Chevron in the Lekki area, though something tell us its for D-banj. Suprisingly, we hear that D-Banj does not yet own a property of his own, in this age and time, with all the money they supposedly made at the now defunct Mo' Hits Records! It's baffling!!!

Anyways, just over 2 weeks ago now, D-Banj suprised his younger sibling, with a very neat looking 2007 model, Mercedes Benz CLS car, wow!!! Ain't that great, yes it is. And we hear that some more goodies are on the way for those loyal to him. Praaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!

D-BANJ AT THE PASSPORT OFFICE.

Our one and only Mr. Endowed aka Mr. Entertainer aka many things, but best known as D-Banj was very recently on Monday, June 11, 2012 at the passport office on the Island, that's the one near Obalende (by Alagbon Close) and on arrival you would have thought it was either a very top Government Official or most probably the top boss at the Immigrations that had just arrived.

Most people know that anywhere, the G.O.O.D Music Nigerian/African star goes nowadays it’s always with plenty of swags. Entourage, made up of security details, personal staff and a few friends or should we say hangers-on.

Like we were saying before, our star arrived at the immigrations office on Monday, his mission we couldn't immediately ascertain (most probably to pick up a new International passport or to start the process prior to getting one) and he came like a superstar that he is, in a convoy of 4 cars, he was in his Black, 2-door Aston Martin Vantage car followed by 3 other cars. He got down at the entrance to the immigrations office and seems to just put on the full effect of his swags lighting up the whole place. Many who were there were quite impressed. Truth be said, the security around him nowadays no be joke ooooo. Like we love to say it here, no be moin moin!!!!!!!!Is that how he does it abroad too?
