 Lagos was agog on Sunday, April 14, 2013, when Encomium, the magazine and events company, staged the 4th edition of The Black & White Ball. Held at Ruby Gardens on Klm 11, Lekki Epe Expressway, Lekki, Lagos, the high octane event incorporating the Elegance and Style Awards and showcasing jaw-dropping drapes and duds attracted loads of music and movie stars, comedians, politicos, uncommon entrepreneurs, serious professionals and captains of industry. The Black & White Ball equally featured music and comedy, dinner and dance. 


Honoured with the prestigious awards were the Delta State governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan who emerged The Most Stylish Governor and Tex Egbedi (Texen), for Pace Setting Clothier. Wife of Lagos State governor, Dame Emmanuella Abimbola Fashola was also decorated with the Most Adorable First Lady award, while delectable actress, Ebube Nwagbo won Most Elegant Entertainer among others.


Proudly supported by Intercontinental Distilleries Limited (IDL), makers of Chelsea London Dry Gin, Squadron Dark Rum and Veleta Sparkling Fruit Drink, The Black & White Ball was graced by top celebrities, including Chidi Mokeme, Fred Amata, Aremu Afolayan, Victor Osuagwu, Susan Peters, Mercy Aigbe, Empress Njamah, Adaora Ukoh, Chioma Toplis, Iyabo Ojo, Liz Anjorin, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Thomas, Shade Omoniyi, Saidi Balogun, Kefee, Chidinma and Chidiebere Aneke, Ali Baba, AY, Prince Bisi Olatilo and wife, Sammie Okposo and wife, Kcee, Yaw, Elkanah Mowarin, Funny Bone, Akpororo, D-Don, Kenny and D One, Apostle Oloruntoba Oke, Iyalode Adunni Bankole, Olori Tokunbo Eko, Mrs. Emelda Osuji (Madam Modesty) among scores of celebs and socialites.


Also in attendance were former Minister of Information and Culture, Chief Dr Alex Akinyele, Niger-Delta activist, Chief Atake Tom and Senators Ganiyu O. Solomon and Florence Ita-Giwa.

Anchored by high-flying entertainer, Julius Agwu, it would be recalled that the maiden edition of the Black & White Ball was held in 2009 to celebrate A Decade of Encomium, and it has since been entrenched in the nation’s social calendar as a high octane extravaganza to be and copy.

COUNTDOWN TO THE 4TH EDITION OF ENCOMIUM BLACK AND WHITE BALL



Encomium Weekly, Nigeria’s foremost lifestyle magazine has announced plans for its highly anticipated 4th edition of the Black and White Ball!

The Lagos based publication says it is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring The Black and White Ball is top-notch as every detail of the event will depict style and panache.

“The 6 hour extravaganza promises to surpass previous editions.” Kunle Bakare, publisher of Encomium says.

Although a date has not been disclosed yet, the event already boasts of a robust guest list of over a thousand people which will include Nigeria’s favourite celebs, captains of industries, entertainment aficionados etc in a majestic marquee situated in the heart of Lagos State.

Encomium’s Black and White Ball has hosted many stars over the years, including Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, Otunba Gbenga Daniels, Dele Momodu, Genevieve Nnaji, Dayo Adeneye and Keke Ogungbe.

To highlight the event, there will be a showcase of fabulous pieces from some of Nigeria’s most gifted designers. Pioneers and forerunners in the fashion and style business who have made elegance desirable will be awarded by a select committee comprising a panel of Encomium Weekly readers and in house team members.

The 6-hour event will kick off with an elaborate red carpet reception and guests will also be treated to choice food and exquisite drinks.

Founded in May 1997, Encomium Weekly has steadily risen to become the celebrity journal to imitate and beat The magazine has become the most respected magazine in its niche and has morphed from a purely black and white magazine with only colour covers to a magazine with coloured multi pages.

 Celebrities, media moguls and top bosses in the Nigerian entertainment industry came out in their numbers to celebrate Nigeria's 52nd Independence at the Encomium Green and White Groove. 

The annual event which held at Anchor Events place in Ikeja on Monday October 1 had guests come in their different luxurious Green and White ensembles. 

Amidst a spread of African and continental cuisine, guests were treated to DJ Jimmy JATT's impressive mix of Nigerian hit tracks.

GREEN AND WHITE GROOVE RETURNS WITH SUPERSTAR EDITION

As Nigeria clocks 52 on Monday October 1, Encomium Weekly and Primetime Entertainment are rolling out the green carpet for the annual Green and White Groove.

The famous independence party, put together to celebrate Nigeria and Nigerians has become one of the most important events on October 1. And the organizers say it promises to get even better this year - with more star performances, higher celeb attendance, a new, improved venue, and thousands of patriotic Nigerians coming out to celebrate their country.

‘’It’s the biggest, most exciting party celebrating the most populous Nation’s independence anniversary’ says Encomium publisher Kunle Bakare.

‘There are challenges, but every year, we move forward. This year, we’re celebrating our nation, and the positive-minded citizens who are determined to make Nigeria great, in spite of the many hurdles on the way’.

Already confirmed for the Monday October 1 event are superstar DJs Jimmy JATT and Vinnie, as well as the Kennis Music All Stars.

‘We’re having a dance and a party’, says Primetime’s Keke Ogungbe who adds that the event will be broadcast live on the Kennis Channel on Startimes.

The Green and White Groove will hold between 4 and 10pm on Monday October 1, at Anchor Event Place, Agidingbi, in Ikeja, Lagos. ‘Lagos will rock for six hours uninterrupted on Monday’, adds Keke’s partner Dayo Adeneye.

Those who truly care about Nigeria, who have as much stake as those in government and in the corridors of power, will participate in this event which renews hope and calls for greater dedication in nation building.

Guests, the organizers say, are drawn from pillars of comedy to giants of music and movies, serious professionals to incorrigible activists, super stars, uncommon entrepreneurs, to proud, positive Nigerians in all fields.
