OUT & ABOUT AT TIWA SAVAGE'S ALBUM LISTENING PARTY

Just like we already announced in an earlier post, the album listening party was at the Wheatbaker Hotel in Ikoyi, Lagos. It was Tiwa's own way of  bonding with some of her fans, majorly with a few of her support systems, the media and a few of her colleagues. 


It was a very well put together event by her management team 323 entertainment headed by her fiance Teebillz & her record label, Mavin Records led by Don Jazzy. The Mavin quartet (Don Jazzy, D'Prince, Dr Sid & Wande Coal) were unavoidably absent has they had to be in South Africa, where they performed to an ovation at the opening of the Big Brother Africa: The Chase reality show. Though they were absent, they sent in a video message that was relayed to all. Don Jazzy thanked all for their support all this while and spoke about the new album in glowing terms. 

Then immediately to the business of the day, which was the album listening, though we couldn't stay till the end, the bits & bobs that we heard was quite impressive. It was a little bit of everything, like some would say a flavour pool for everyone, showcasing the incredible writing & the singing talent of the 'sonorously' blessed one. It was a gradual unfolding and majestic journey of excellence. This good-natured and gorgeous, singer-entertainer has come of age and matured. Like they say ''like good wine gets better with age''.

The about 20 + songs were introduced by Tiwa one after the other, each time giving little titbits about the inspiration & reasons behind each song. This particularly endeared the audience to each jam. The lady of the day, was gorgeously garbed (in a Mary Kartranzou outfit, finished off with a silver Jimmy Choo strappy sandals) showing off her legs in her short silk outfit to stunning effect. 

Who were those we saw around? Quite a few, Eyo Effiong, Femi Akande, Eku Edewor, Azuka Ogujuiba, Olisa Adibua, Dolapo Oni, Linda Ikeji, Noble Igwe, Jumai & Aisha Shaba, Franka Chiedu, Waje, Latasha Ngwube, Ify Ejikeme, Efe Tommy, Uti Nwachukwu, Banky W, DJ Spinall, Toju Foyeh , Akin Babs-Familusi, Azuh Arinze, Biodun Kupoluyi, Sesan Adeniyi & Toolz Oniru just to mention a few. Illrhymz was the day's MC, the dapper dude looked very on point. 

Event itself was handled by No Suprises, where Funmi Okigbo is the Numero Uno. Cocktail started at about 3pm before the event proper began about an hour plus later. Support was given by Pepsi who had renewed Tiwa's ambassadorial contracts for another 2 years. And Bailey's Irish Cream was served for all to enjoy! The album aptly titled ''Once Upon A Time'' would be dropping on June 14, 2013.

OUR OTHER DAY STUNNER IS NONE OTHER THAN.....................YVONNE 'VIXEN OF LIFE' EKWERRE

Vixen's lot has been on the increase exponentially in recent times. Not only is she always in our face, looking very stylish & gorgeous, at least she's trying (she seem to have many designers & stylists on a permanent lock-down nowadays), but her work profile has also been increasing. 

She's always either on the red-carpet doing her thing the way she knows best (Yeh! we all know she works at Silverbird TV), but she's also shown over time that, she's a good show hostess, a very good example was the recent Butterscotch Concert she hosted very recently. She gave a good account of herself. Good delivery, witty one liners and great flow. Style-wise!!! She's always tried to do her best. Though, we have frowned on very very few occasions, 88% of the times, she's impressed us. And that's massive. Way to go girl.

Apart from the hair in the picture above, we love how she's interpreted the LBD. Are those Louboutins we are seeing there. Yes we think so (Christian Louboutin bis-un-bout 120mm pvc pumps black average cost at about $1,350 dollars, but on daily deal at $145.99 dollars). Hmmmmmmmmmmm

SAD SAD FEW DAYS FOR THE ONYEADOR'S, BAYERO'S, THE ALAO'S & NOW THE MUDASHIRU'S

Sad news of the passing away of the wives of some prominent members of the society has hit many like a shock wave. Between Thursday last week and now, we have heard of 3 of such deaths. His Royal Majesty, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero lost his wife, Hajia Rabi Ado-Bayero to the cold hands of death. Hajia Rabi passed on at the age of 67 on Thursday night May 24, 2013 and was buried according to Islamic rites on Friday, May 25, 2013. She was survived by her husband, the Emir, many children & grand-children. May her departed soul rest in peace. 

The other sad occurrence was the passing away of the wife of the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji Arisekola Alao, in the person of Alhaja Risikat Arisekola-Alao, who also died on Thursday, May 24, 2013 at the age of 68. Alhaja Risikat was said to have died after a brief illness. But particular cause of death was not revealed. She has since been buried according to Islamic rites since Friday, May 25, 2013.  At her burial were some prominent Nigerian friends of the Islamic leader & business merchant, the likes of Elder Wole Oyelese, Mr. Obafoluke Otudeko, Alhaji Lamidi Ajadi, Prof. Taoheed Ladoja & many others. 

Another sad loss was that of Ebele Onyeador, the now late younger sibling of the elegant art aficionado of blessed memory, Angela Onyeador. Angela herself died only a year ago, while her elder sister Stella had died about 3 years ago. Ebele the last of the trio before her sudden death, was the only surviving child of late Sir & Mrs Alex Onyeador.

The most recent to have gone to the great beyond, as recent as a few hours ago is the wife of the late former Governor of Lagos State, Air Commodore Gbolahan Mudashiru's wife. Mrs Foluke Mudashiru, age 67 passed on in far away Atlanta, Georgia after battling with an undisclosed ailment for a while. She finally gave up the ghost today, Monday, May 27, 2013. Exactly a decade after her husband's demise. 

We commiserate with the deceased family members. May the souls of all the dearly departed rest in peace.

2 FOR 1 FOR NGOZI EKEOMA, MD NEPAL OIL & GAS SERVICES LTD

The gorgeous Barrister at law, who was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2005 and is the Managing Director/CEO of a growing oil & gas company had twin celebrations this recent out gone week. The hardworking & equally very stylish lady clocked 40 during the week, though she had a hush-hush celebration. 


It was also during the week of her 40th that her company, Nepal Oil & Gas Services Limited, with headquarters at Oyinkan Abayomi, Victoria Island, Lagos & operational office in Calabar, Cross River opened their ultra modern tank farm & jetty at Ogbara/Ajagbodu road, Ogareki, Ogbara in Delta State. 

According to those in the know, the new tank farm/jetty is ultra modern in every sense of the word, having in place all the latest equipments & technology money can afford. From the little we could piece together the growth of Nepal is said to be a testament to the hardwork, diligence and passion of the company's amiable MD/CEO.  The tank farm/jetty was declared opened by none other than the Governor of Delta State, his Excellency, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan.

Aisha Shaba is the younger sibling of Jumai Shaba, the gorgeous lady you all used to see on Jara. We can bet you would have encountered Aisha, she prefers to spell it Ayesha on Tinsel before. She loves acting and she's presently one of the 10 lucky contestants vying for the top spot at on going new reality series ''Africa's Next Hollywood Star''. There are 5 contestants each from Nigeria & Ghana. They are all competing to be the lucky co-star on a film project with handsome hunk-Morris Chestnut in his next movie, while also getting a one year contract with a Hollywood agent.

She's just finished a movie with Sneeze in which she worked alongside consummate actor Jim Iyke, there's another movie already in the pipeline also featuring Oreka Godis, the delicious former OAP with Beat99.9FM. We also hear that there's a major project upcoming with the incredibly talented Emem Isong. So the young lady seem to have plenty up her sleeves now, which is good.

But one talent she's also very well known for, is that she's a gifted designer. She's the owner of her own eponymous label Ayesha. And men her designs are in your face sexyyyyy!!!. Since getting back back from schooling abroad, she's opened 2 boutiques of her own, one on Allen Avenue, Ikeja & the other one in Victoria Island, just behind the Bella Adenuga Gold Building on Ligali Ayorinde.

We caught up with her just yesterday, wearing one of her own collections and we have seen her in several, a sheer piece with the mesh in some very strategic places, very daring is only how we can describe it.

OUT & ABOUT AT DIVAS ROCK IN LAGOS WITH SALT 'N' PEPA

We are so sorry that this is coming rather late. But it's still better late than never at all. Salt 'n' Pepa were in Lagos, Nigeria at the beginning of the month of May, as the headliners in the concert tagged ''Divas Rock''. The duo we can tell you all for a fact, without mincing words can still rock and they rocked the house with a medley of their fantastic jams of years gone by.

But they were not the only acts on the night, as they were ably supported by some of Nigeria's best female acts like Eva Alordiah- we particularly love the way she effortlessly romanced the microphone , Sasha P- she hasn't lost her touch at all, though we felt it was the wrong outfit to rap in, Weird MC who is still as energetic as ever, running round the house getting everyone off their sits and things, then last but not the least Ms Jaie, who though has a great voice and sang well. We didn't think her outfit for the performance was good enough. Twas after Ms Jaei that the legendary duo came out smoking hot and they gave a great account of themselves. 

It was a great concert for all of us that were there. We do not know why, people must insist that all concerts must happen on the Island. Is it that the 'mainlanders' cannot rock?  So the numbers expected was not as great as was initially expected. But massive kudos must be given to the organizers for putting together one of the best shows we have ever seen in this country. The technical team were out of here, everything about the show like- security, organization, seating arrangement, music production, ambiance etc were first class. Massive kudos to Rodizzio entertainment.

As I was about to check out this afternoon, Iyanya came on screen and captured my attention. This Ibibio boy has really made good and i am so proud of him. His songs, mannerisms, swag has really propelled him in the music world.
I once met him with my good friend Azuka Ogujiuba somewhere in Ikoyi. His Calabar accent struck me, he never make money yet then, so the American accent never come that time. We spoke a little bit about his life and his victory at the MTN reality programme. He came across as a very well grounded young man, who knew very clearly his role in life and knew he would not be distracted by any body or anything for that matter.
As we spoke, a lot of young models were fluttering past in different stages of undress. Apparently Azuka had taken me to a modelling agency. I was in a state of shock and was gasping for breath. Well as a Calabar man too, it was not their skinny bodies that was shocking me, but the carefree nature they were throwing nipples at me. This was quite eye opening for me.
Iyanya too was not fazed and acted as if we were in church. We continued speaking and his gesticulations and mannerisms showed his inner childlike nature. He looked quite good and fresh and you could smell that he had just woken from the Deep sleep that poverty had put him in and was cock sure that he was running very far from it at full speed.
Iyanya has been able to prove that my people are also good at other forms of music. Since Mandators put us in bondage, every Calabar/Ibibio man see themselves as budding Reggae stars. All you see on the streets of Uyo are dirty dreadlocks wearing guys, with the hapless guitar strung across there lean shoulders. The fact that the world had moved on was nothing to them.
Iyanya has broken that glass ceiling and has shown that we can compete with the best. Well done Ayineka and may your road continue to be straight.

VICTOR MOSES & TAYE TAIWO- PLS PLS WHAT'S THE TRUTH?

Some days back we came across some messages, where some Nigerian's were either joking or claiming that Russia based Nigerian left full-back Taye Taiwo was celebrating his so called ''25th'' birthday in Russia, while his supposed twin who lives in Nigeria was celebrating his ''33rd''. It was hilarious in a way, but also got us curious. Could Taye Taiwo have lied all this years and given a football age, that we all took hook, line & sinker? Does that mean that the average Nigerian footballers age including those now retired cannot be less than plus 10 of whatever age they are claiming. Meaning someone like KN is actually in his late 40's going on early 50's or AO about 40 going on to 45? Would this be the reason that many of them have not been able to really excel like they should. Is there no way, one can detect the actual (real age). If truly Taye is really 33 years old, it must mean he would soon be retiring soon and no wonder the ''laws of diminishing returns'' has set in. 

In the case of Victor Moses, who is having one of the best seasons of his life in football right now. Having moved from a relatively small football club in England, to one of the top 3 best in the UK & one of the best in Europe presently, in the shape of Chelsea FC of England. The young man contributed so well to his club achievements in only his first season there. Not forgetting he was also fantastic in Nigeria's Nations Cup win in South Africa earlier this year. The gist currently going on about is that contrary to his claim to have lost his parents a few years ago to sectarian riots in the Northern parts of Nigeria (Kaduna State to be more precise). That claim might well be very farfetched and totally away from the truth. According to some reports, his parents are said to be hale & hearty, very alive in Edo State of Nigeria presently. 

According to the old media reports Mr & Mrs Austine & Josephine Moses- supposed parents of Victor Moses, who were said to be missionaries and were supposedly killed in 2002 during the sectarian riots in Kaduna. The 11 year old had gone out to play football, only to return to a home already destroyed and parents murdered. Victor Moses hence had to travel to the UK to seek for asylum. And the rest his now history. 

With this new discovery now as claimed by Sunday Express of Sunday, May 26 to June 1, 2013 on their page 6. So what is the true situation of things? What does Victor Moses have to say about what has been discovered? Is this a case of doing all one could do, to seek for the golden fleece abroad?

TIWA SAVAGE'S ALBUM LISTENING SET FOR TODAY-SUNDAY, MAY 26, 2013

Today Sunday, May 26, 2013 is the d-day. By say 3 pm, friends, colleagues and the media would be converging at one of the best boutique hotels in Nigeria, the Wheatbaker Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos reportedly owned by the Danjuma (General Theophilus Danjuma to be more precise) for the listening party of one of Nigeria's most gifted songbirds in the person of Tiwaonibaje Savage, better known as Tiwa Savage. 

After many months of trying to put together a body of work that should be commendable and award winning, the highly anticipated album is now finally ready. The detectably sonorous one and her management company headed by her fiance -Teebillz & her record company- Mavin Records, where Don Jazzy is the Capo di tutti Capi, are finally hosting many to her album listening gig. 

That Tiwa is blessed musically is stating the obvious, this is the first ever album the songbird would be putting out, though she's had many years experience in the music industry. From her days in the UK, then to the US, where she collaborated with some of the best in the industry through her song-writing skills & also as a back-up singer, it's been a fun ride. It wasn't until she came back to Nigeria and the release of a couple of singles, that people really took notice. Since then it's been a glorious upward swing for the humble one. 

So today is the day, that many would feel the power of this blessed one in a full circle, as we would all gather to be be mesmerized by her songs.  The highly anticipated debut album is titled ''Once upon a time''.

Wow! wow! wow! We are so happy to celebrate some great people's #birthdays. Some in the past days, while some today. Let's start with the extraordinarily gorgeous #Princess Fifi Ejindu, her name resonates all that's good, gorgeous & great. The brilliant architect from the South-south added a year a few days ago and unlike her decided to have a quiet one, instead choosing a low-key celebration to give glory to the Almighty, for grace, mercy, kindness & love. Many can still readily recall her one of a kind 50th birthday celebration at the only 7-stars hotel in the world- The Burj-al-Arab. She rolled out the drums in celebration for reaching the Jubilee year-50. Friends from near & far, all converged at the Burj to serenade someone many had come to refer to as a wonderful human-being. And because of the sheer opulence of last years shindig many had expected the very liquid lady (some say, she's one of the wealthiest women in Nigeria) to have another party. The life patron of the #AFWL (Africa Fashion Week London) who is helping to stage one of the premier events happening in London this summer at the Dorchester Hotel. Princess Fifi is one of the most philanthropic people in this part of the world and is marking this year's birthday with the receipt of her last year's birthday present to herself. 

The humongous present is none other than a brand spanking sparkling white Rolls Royce Ghost, which she had placed order on since last year. We hear that the glorious machine would be landing sometime soon. Happy birthday our own Nefertiti.

Another birthday person we are celebrating is none other than the hunk, everyone knows as #Kunle Aluko. The young, upwardly mobile dude, whose elder brother-Kola Aluko is one of the top 10 richest persons in Nigeria clocked 40 on Monday, May 20, 2013. Since life like it is said begins at 40, we hear he is rolling out the drums for the celebration this Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the Civic Center, Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria Island, Lagos. So expect to see most of Nigerian young Turks, the suave, the stylish and IT couples gathered at the party. We can bet it would be show-off par excellence- Ferrari's, Porsche Carrera's, Benz AMG's, G Wagons, Special Range Rovers etc on display. 


The Polo loving Kunle like his brother is into Oil & Gas, whilst also a defense contractor. So he is quite liquid in his own right. Happy Birthday bro!

The other person we are celebrating is one of the nicest being in the whole world. And it's none other than the very stylish & petite one, the one and only Miss J or J-Wonder or J-Wow or better still the only under-boss at Polo Ltd, where she is the Executive Director.  #Jennifer Obayuwana added a year and clocked 31 today, Thursday, May 23, 2013. And because of her very busy schedule she's having a quiet celebration. She's most likely either in Geneva or Paris as we speak, attending to matters that concerns her luxury brand Polo Ltd, which is Nigeria's no 1 purveyor of luxury goods. Think names like Rolex, Franck Muller, Hublot, Audemars Piguet, Mont Blanc, Cartier etc than think Polo. We hear that since she came on board at her dad's company, It's been a upward swing in terms of productivity & profitability. 

Jennifer is one of the most avant garde dressers in the country. So quirky her some of her stuffs (garbs/apparels/shoes) many wants to steal them. We particularly hear that her wardrobe is one of the most intimidating around, boasting several collectors items (bags, shoes and most especially wrist-watches).  D banj's heartbeat we are sure is having a great one wherever in the world she might be at right now.

Other birthdays worth mentioning are those of Deacon Gamaliel Onosode; the board room guru and perfect gentleman, clocked the ripe old age of 4 scores a few days ago. Trybe's Records head honcho Eldee d Don- the rapper and award winning producer's birthday was today. Also noted is that of prolific actress Rachel Oniga. Last but not the least, also a year older today is arts impresario Chief Mrs Nike Okundaye, the great artist & designer is the founder of the Nike's Art Gallery.

BULL'S EYE BY JOSEPH SAMPSON EDGAR- Fred Amata: why I don't like him

I was on my way to watch Kakadu at The Muson last Saturday, when I stumbled on a red carpet event. On closer look, it was my paddy Fred's 50th. I was mad. So this guy fit do party without inviting me? I bought him his first toothbrush in Lagos o.

I decided to gate crash. I informed the bouncers, that I was his uncle from Warri, but because I am better looking than him, they did not believe . So I was barred from entering. To kill time, I decided to amuse myself by staring at the wannabes who were strutting the red carpet.

These our stars and the way they were rocking their okrika. The swagger and the confidence baffles. Then the ladies, the way they squeeze into the tight clothes, one would expect a seizure anytime. I really enjoyed myself watching them walk on them high heels, holding on to each other so they don't fall down.

I met Fred sometime ago and immediately drew a fancy to him. His role in the Onyeka Onwenu /Sunny Ade collabo still rings a bell in my mind. He has been very prolific and his body of work  is there for all to see. He is a great man, though I still don't like him.

He called last year and invited me to his Xmas special. I went and saw so many great people, Segun Arinze, Monalisa, Dejumo Lewis. I really enjoyed myself though the food finished before it got to my turn.

But seriously, Fred has been a recurring decimal in our creative industry both in front and behind the camera. He has contributed a lot to the development of Nollywood and must be given his pride of place despite his folly when the history of Nollywood would be written. Hi acting and directing are all a study. I hear he is one of the best Directors around and I am so proud of him, though I don't like him.


I reserve my well wishes cos he did not invite me to the party. When he invites me to his 51st, I will wish him well. Meanwhile, I will send him a crate of eggs and a carton of Indomie as my own contribution to his birthday. This marks me out as a better person for sending him gifts even though, he did not invite me to his classy party.

From the very incredible Tuface Idibia, to the likes of MI, Naeto C, Seyi Shay, Phyno, J Martins, Wande Coal, Sean Tizzle, Kas, Sound Sultan, DJ Jimmy Jatt, DJ Caise, Karen Igho, Sunday Are, Tiwa Savage, Gideon Okeke who was the the night's MC, Uti Nwachukwu, Mr Raw etc.  We hear the likes of Ice Prince and some other artistes would be joining the train as the trek moves along.

This year's edition would have 22 artistes performing in 10 cities over 10 weeks, starting from June 8, 2013 in Festac, Lagos & ending on August 10, 2013 back in Lagos at the Oceanview Arena, Victoria Island, Lagos. The stars would entertain their die-hard fans at venues in Festac, Agege, Victoria Island in Lagos State, Abeokuta, in Ogun State, Asaba, in Delta State, Nnewi, Anambra State, Owerri, Imo State, Enugu, Enugu State, Lokoja, Kogi State & Aba, Abia State. The dates for the trek are as follows- June 8, Festac, June 15, Lokoja, June 22, Owerri, June 29, Enugu, July 7, Aba, July 13, Nnewi, July 20, Asaba, July 27, Abeokuta, August 10, Agege, before everything would now end same date at the Oceanview, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The theme for this year's Trek is Nigeria Rocks, so in all the cities the trek would be visiting, the cities are set to rock to its foundation.  Star Trek Music Concert is probably the biggest of its kind in the country. And it has been very successful since its advent in 2002, so this year's edition is the 11th in the series. The idea from the organizers is to carry the Nigerian Music stars to the nooks & crannies of the country, helping to bring fun and excitement the way of the stars adoring fans.
