Please, let's not distort facts and truth. I'm being bombarded with
emails and phone calls on the issue of Renunciation of Citizenship as
contained in the Nigeria Constitution Section 29(4)(b) "....any woman
who is married shall be deemed to be of full age...".
The 7th Senate is accused of enacting laws in favour of girl child
marriages. There are 109 Senators. The Senate needs 73 Votes to pass
laws. The Senate voted 60 votes to delete the controversial section, 35
Votes to retain the section. There were abstentions and non registration
to vote.
The number of Senators who voted favourably were in the majority (60),
but unfortunately we needed 73 Votes to pass. Now tell me, where did the
entire Senate vote in favour of girl child marriage.
Senate President, Rt Hon. David Mark, made it clear from the very
beginning, that every Senator shall vote according to his/her
conscience. The Senate Hansards show clearly how Senators voted. The
records tell the story. Religion became a pawn.
I am a mother of girl children. I do not consent to early marriages. I
voted against Section 29(4)(b). That the section be deleted from our
Nigeria Constitution. I will vote same again. I have no regrets!!!

MY RESPONSE TO SENATOR AHMED SANI AND HIS SUPPORTERS-
''If
I had any doubts that the self-confessed paedophile Senator Ahmed Sani
was of the devil before today I have long since shed those doubts. Ahmed
is not only evil but he is also a very sick man. In any civilised
society he would be either be behind bars or he would be in a mental
hospital.
We as a people need to protect the girl-child from
self-righteous sexual predators like him. He not only thrives on
under-age sex and child rape but he boasts about it and seeks to justify
it with his Islamic faith. He forgets that in 95 per cent of Muslim
countries in the world today child-marriage, child-sex, child-porn and
paedophilia are specifically banned and outlawed by law. Are those
people and nations not muslims too? Is he a better Muslim than them? Are
the Muslims of southern Nigeria in Yorubaland who have collectively
refused to indulge in vile practices like paedophilia, child- marriage,
child-rape and child-sex and who consider such things to be an abomination not Muslims too? As far as I am concerned they are the true Muslims and they are far better and more civilised than Ahmed Sani's
brand.

We believe this very distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria needs no introduction whatsoever. From the little we have all come to know about him, he is one person who doesn't care whose ox is gored when it comes to his belief & utterances. He says it as he deems fit. He has been in the eye of the storm for a while now, first it was about the sharia law thing a few years back. Now it is about the child marriage issue.
There has been the outpouring of outrage and disgust, since Nigerians learnt of recent that the bill about early marriage to kids had been signed into law, by the Senate of our country. So there's now no law against marrying an underage.
A list of those law makers, who signed & supported the bill has been making the rounds for about 2 days now. One of those prominently mentioned to have supported the bill is the Honourable Senator Ahmed Sani Yariman Bakura, the former Governor of Zamfara State. Who himself about 2 years ago married a 13 years old girl.
He has purportedly replied the critics of the child marriage thing- Hear him- Nigeria has many uncountable problems and none of them is early
marriage. As a matter of fact early marriage is the solution to about
half of our problems. For those who wonder, if I can give my daughter(s)
out in marriage at the age of 9 or 13, I tell you most honestly, I can
give her out at the age of 6, if I want to and its not your business.
This is because I am a Muslim and I follow the example of the best of
mankind, Muhammad (PBUH). In Islam, marriage is not only about sex, it
is about family and helping one another in achieving their goals, which
is the attainment of Paradise. In Islam, a girl can be given out in
marriage as early as 6 years old, but consummation of the marriage can
only be done when the girl becomes physically mature and she gives her
consent to it unlike English law, it is not permissible for a man to
rape his wife in Shari'a h Law. So what can anybody tell me?
I live in a
city where young girls at the age of 12, have already become serial
fornicators and cannot count the number of men they have had sex with.

Of all the things to do as law makers for the land: the best law that our law makers could come up with is to sign into law the bill that legalises underage marriage. A little innocent child who just coming of age and learning to grow up, is subjected to the rigors of marriage at such a young age. Before she's 20, she would most likely have had about 3 to 4 kids. What an age to carry such responsibility? Then if the much older husband feels like picking up another under-aged, the old one (still a child herself and only just 20) has become like a used commodity set aside or discarded. What kind of emotional & physical turmoil for little kids at that age. Now it is okay to marry a girl of 13 years old!!!
See the mindset of those we have voted to protect us? It's like that chamber is becoming the center for the absurd. Why wouldn't it become so, an idle hand it is said is the d...... workshop. So when people seem to have too much time at hand, they would come up with strange things. Let's just say this then, if they can legalise underage marriage, then they should just allow the gays (homosexuals, lesbians, transvestite etc) have their day too. Like it is said whatever is good for the goose is good for the gander.
