LIVE IN LA- AFRICA FASHION WEEK LOS ANGELES, THE OUT & ABOUT ON DAY 3

We missed the 2nd day of the fashion showcase as their was too much fun the previous night. We had a good trip around LA having a good feel of the night life. Just like in any other part of the world, it's however you want it. You are either mixing with the stars or managing with you kind, money talks and bullshit walks!!!

We criss-crossed the town and at the end of the night, we were totally fagged out, from all the fun and sight-seeing. Fun dey oooo, if person no get things to do, but just to faff around. So all through the 2nd day we had a well-deserved rest.

On the 3rd day, which was the grand-finale, we made sure we were at our best, hangover was long gone, plenty of work to do, pictures to take for our loyal readers and ears on ground for any gist(s) just in case. 

Elegante Couture, owned by Toyin Lawani was to show on this day, so we made sure to get to the venue on time, as it was the last day, venue was more jam-packed. So we immediately set about taking pictures of the out & about and also the front-row seats. Here are the pictures for your viewing delight.

So what's our candid opinion about the maiden AFWLA? Firstly, we have had to accept that it was the maiden showcase, so kudos to the organisers for at least making it happen and trying their best. But there is still much room for improvement and they must be encouraged to do much better. Hall was rather small, attention to detail on a lot of things needed, communication, a vital part of any successful venture, needs to be improved upon. All these aside, the future for the AFWLA is bright!!!

OUT & ABOUT AT THE AFRICA FASHION WEEK LOS ANGELES 2012 DAY 1

The maiden edition of the AFWLA was just a few weeks ago. The venue of the fashion showcase was the Papillion Institute of Art, S. Main Street, Los Angeles. Just like we made mention in our first report, we had crazy fun running around Los Angeles. Prior to the show starting, we couldn't sit in one place, so we made sure to go everywhere, we were at the Nokia Theatre, the Staples Center which is the home center for the LA Lakers, we went around the fashion district, we even visited the famous Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising just for the fun of it, we were at some of the major bars and restaurants where the stars go to relax, Wolfang Puck Bar & Grill, LA Live, Rock n Fish etc, we were saw the 2 sides of LA, the glamour parts & the dirty, seedy side. It was mad fun all the way.

The show proper was in the evening, so we had enough time to faff around.  We later got to the venue sometime later in the evening to meet the show in full swing. But we were able to take some pictures (30+) on the 'red carpet' for our readers viewing pleasure.

LIVE AT THE AFWLA 2012! THE WELCOME SOIREE!

Los Angeles, California, USA. We were recently in Los Angeles, to cover the maiden edition of the Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles. Landing at one of the entertainment capitals of the world was an eye opener. And to say the truth we thoroughly enjoyed the 7 days in LA.

One of those we saw in town was the one and only Toyin Lawani of the Tiannah Styling & Elegante Couture fame, who had come in from the UK, with her UK based publicist and a model from the Queen's land UK in tow to showcase at the 3 days event and an intern from New York, who had also flown in. 
We had both landed a day to the event proper, so we had to hit the ground running. The 15 hours flight for us, first to Houston for 12 hours and then from Houston to LA another 3 hours did not dampen our spirit. So we quickly made preparations to attend the welcome party for all, which the event organizers had tagged 'welcome mixer'. 

Getting unpacked at our hotel at the Staple Center Inn, we quickly had a change of clothes and we were off to the venue of the mixer, the Standard Hotel, which was quite a distance away. Though we got to the cocktail party a bit late, we still had great fun mixing & chatting, with other designers, a few guests, some models, a few of the organising team etc.
