CAN THE ASIWAJU INSTALL A CHIEF?

News was rife in town since about a few days ago, that the Asiwaju (Leader) of Lagos or should we put it like Senator Smart Adeyemi pronounced it in Dubai a few weeks ago, when he said Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Leader of the ACN should be addressed as the Asiwaju of Yorubaland, had proclaimed that his first daughter- Folasade Tinubu-Ojo as the new Iyaloja(Market Leader)General of (Lagos)Nigeria.

Though there was no official confirmation (from the Lagos State Government or from the Oba of Lagos) on the supposed pronouncement, we are so sure that the story of the pronouncement is a blatant joke from someone's imagination.

Reason for this is because we don't think the Asiwaju who is also the Jagaban of Borgu, with all his supposed democratic antecedence, would resort to making such a unilateral pronouncement which an elected Oba or most probably a sitting Governor should have been the one to make.

And even if the Oba was going to make such a pronouncement, would he not have had to consult widely with his people on his choice to see to it that the choice was a popular one? Especially if such a position is a very sensitive & popular Chieftaincy role like the one of the overall market leader, which is now gradually being politicized.

WHERE IS THE SO CALLED OPPOSITION IN LAGOS STATE? ARE THEY READY FOR THE NEXT ELECTION?

MUSILIU OBANIKORO

ASIWAJU BOLA AHMED TINUBU

A few weeks ago we had asked the question on this platform- Who is the next Governor of Lagos? Our reason mainly for asking was because we had observed some moves by some members of the ruling party- the ACN who seem to have loads of those that can vie for the post. Some were even already making their intentions known either openly or surreptitiously. Many names are been bandied around and everyone seem to be jostling one way or the other, trying to test the waters, though the election is still about 2 years away. We quite understand the fact that some are using it as bargaining tool for relevance.

While some have openly shown their intentions, some are still acting like they are not interested at all, while their body language says otherwise. We love the fact that those who commented on the last post seem to agree with some of the names with we had made mention of in our earlier write-up- the likes of Gbolahan Lawal, Obafemi Hamzat, Muiz Banire, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, Gbenga Ashafa, Ganiyu Solomon etc.
