BET AWARDS 2017 RED CARPET ROLL CALL. ALL THE SEXY, TRASHY & GORGEOUS DETAILS

The major highlight of these year's edition is that our own Wiz, the one and only Star Boy, Wizkid won another award again!
This is the consecutive year for the young man as per winning a BET and especially in a year that has been exhilarating in everyway. It's been one good news after the other for the Nigerian. All the collaborations are all gradually yielding fruits and more awards might be coming in.

As much as the award show is the focus, the other part many always look forward to is the style/fashion part. And the stars like they are known to do went overboard to make impressions they had wanted to pass across.

Check out those that caught our attention.

STYLE 101 AT THE AMVCA 2013-THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE OUTRIGHT UGLY

OUTFIT BY APRIL BY KUNBI

OUTFIT BY BRIDGET AWOSIKA
Away from every other thing about the maiden or inaugural edition  of the AfricaMagic Viewers Choice Award 2013. It was the first ever edition of what should turn out to be one of the best thing to happen to movie and entertainment in Africa. Like someone said, this is our own OSCARS, so we all should support to get to the highest level. Nigeria should be commended for being the host of the first show. Though there were little technical hitches here and there, the organisers still delivered on all points. Kudos to them for a job well done.

We are sure this is one of the biggest events hosted in Lagos, Nigeria for a while now. 1500 guests from all the different sectors came. The Federal Government was ably represented by the Ministers of Petroleum Resources (Diezanni Allison-Madueke), For Culture & Tourism (Chief Edem Duke) & For Trade & Investments (Olusegun Aganga). Curiously the host state, Lagos was missing in action, no State Governor, and we didn't hear of any representatives.

Away from all of that and to how our stars, celebrities etc did on the style stake. Not wanting to talk too much, some of these stars/celebrities seem to have come to the understanding of their shapes, sizes, body contours very well, so they always make sure to dress to accentuate their best features. Style-wise, some seem to have a good understanding of the number one rule of fashion and watchword; Simplicity, while others still need to go to school to learn or something. When you try to do too much or take on what's not your forte, you just go terribly wrong.

Let's just check out some of the one's we saw, Genevieve Nnaji, our ever gorgeous actress seem to define the word simplicity in every facet, either she's absolutely good by herself or her stylist must be very good. She first wore a simple well cut, white outfit that was made for her by one of Nigeria's fastest growing and most impressive designers in a while, Bridget Awosika. It was a sexy, yet very functional dress;  which showed just a hint of the chest, without being vulgar. For her change of outfit, she wore what we have tagged as ''yellow like gold''. The colour seems to be one of the colours of the season and it takes the bold to wear it, as there's a thin line between getting it well and missing it. Never knew, Genny had such nice curves on such petite frame. Outfit was by April by Kunbi, a Nigerian label owned by New York trained Kunbi Oyelese.

ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE WELCOMES THISDAY AWARD 2013

SENATOR IBIKUNLE AMOSUN

BILL CLINTON

PRINCE NDUKA OBAIGBENA
We had announced before that all things being equal that this year's ThisDay award was set to have taken place on Valentine's day(Thursday, February 14, 2013) at the Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos). But alas the award didn't happen on the said day due to many factors.

Now we have been able to get the date for the award proper, according to our findings the ThisDay award 2013, where teachers and those in the education sector are being recognised and rewarded for all their hard-work of many years is set for a venue, yet to be announced in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The venue according to what we hear, would only be announced to the specially invited guests.

The special guest of honour for the 18th edition of the ThisDay award is none other than the 42nd President of the United States of America, Mr. William 'Bill' Clinton, who would be making his third appearance as a special guest of ThisDay.

This particular edition of the prestigious award is 'celebrating the best and brightest teachers'. It is in recognition of the critical role they play in human capital development, socio-cultural and economic advancement of Nigeria. Over the months ThisDay readers had sent in nominations of their favourite teachers numbering a total of 750.

A shortlist of those to be awarded would be provided by a distinguished panel headed by former director at the World Bank, Mrs Oby Ezelwesili and the panel includes the likes of Mr. Fola Adeola, former MD/CEO of Gtbank & Mallam Haruna Adamu, a veteran journalist.

We hear that several factors made for the choice of the ancient town of Abeokuta, Ogun State. A town where many distinguished Nigerians hail from. Apart from the fact that the current Governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, is said to be taking giant strides in transforming the education sector in his domain, there are several historical factors that tilted the choice Abeokuta way.

The 1st secondary school in Nigeria, Abeokuta Grammar School, was established in 1908 in Abeokuta. The town is also known for many other 1sts.
- 1st Bible to come to Nigeria, was received in Abeokuta.
- 1st Church in Nigeria, was established in Ake, Abeokuta.
- 1st Newspaper in Nigeria, was established in Abeokuta.
- 1st Nobel laureate for Africa, Professor Wole Soyinka is from Abeokuta.
- 1st Chief Justice of the Federation, Sir Adetokunbo Ademola, was from Abeokuta.
- 1st Nigerian Lawyer- Sir Alexander Akintola Sapara Williams, was from Abeokuta.
- 1st Permanent Secretary & Head of Service in Nigeria- Chief Simon Adebo.
- 1st Woman to drive a car in the Country-Mrs Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti was from Abeokuta.

So come Tuesday, February 26, 2013, Abeokuta, Ogun State would agog as top digniatries converge for the ThisDay award 2013.

THISDAY AWARDS 2013 IS FOR VALENTINE DAY

PRINCE NDUKA OBAIGBENA
This year's edition of the ThisDay Awards an annual ritual from the stable of the publishers of ThisDay is set for this Thursday, February 14, 2013. Incidentally that's St. Valentine's Day. Or like many like to tag it ''Lovers Day'' as if all other days are not good for love.

For the first time in a long while, there's not very much buzz around this particular one, we do not understand why. Unlike in the past when the media is agog with news about the upcoming award, there seem to be a perplexed feel about this 2013 edition.

We hear the award is back to Lagos and the venue for the Thursday's event is Eko Hotel. This year's award is celebrating to high heavens, those wonderful people we have all neglected- Teachers & Educationists. The bedrock of Nations successes in all areas of endeavors, finally someone wants to reward their hard-work, so its no more about their rewards in heaven. But herein first and in the afterlife later.

Kudos ThisDay!

THE 5TH ANNUAL MODE MAGAZINE'S MEN OF THE YEAR AWARDS-2012

WELCOME TO THE OUT & ABOUT AND ALL THE HAPPENSTANCES AT THE BEAUTIFUL EVENT.

Year by year, event after event the Mode Magazine Annual awards seem to be growing in leaps & bounds. Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa, the grandson of the late former Prime-Minister of Nigeria, who is the publisher of Mode Men Magazine and his team must be well commended for doing their best to put together a great award showcase. That they were able to get the support of such classy brands like Johnnie Walker Blue Label and Tom Ford is a plus for them. Those 2 brands were very conspicuous at the venue of the event on night and many who had not before then, experienced the power of the 2 brands had a ball at no cost to themselves.

The venue of the award, that's in its 5th season, was the grand ballroom of the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
