Nigeria's no 1 goal king- Rashidi Yekini has passed on to the great beyond. The shocking news about his death came about last night.
Aged 48, born on October 23, 1963 in Kaduna State, Nigeria and from Iraa, near Offa in Kwara State, the record breaking goal-scoring king was said to have had a prolonged battle against mental disorder, until his sudden demise. He would have clocked 49 in October of this year.
He was said to have being a recluse, who preferred living alone, with no known friends or even family members living with him. He is said to have had 3 wives and 3 kids.
He was trained as an automobile mechanic, but made his mark as a footballer, scoring 37 goals in 58 appearances playing for his beloved country- Nigeria. He was a former African Footballer of the year- The 1st Nigerian to ever win the award, and the 1st Nigerian footballer to score a goal at the World Cup.
He is to be buried according to Muslim rites at 12 noon, today May 5, 2012.
