NOLLYWOOD STARS & MORE GATHER AT THE KANEKALON NIGHT OF A THOUSAND BRAIDS 2013

ADAORA UKOH
UCHE OGBODO & FRIEND
DORIS SIMEON
FATHIA BALOGUN

Many would have felt that it was a Nollywood event, as many of the Nigerian movie stars gathered as guests at this year's Kanekalon Night of a Thousand braids, which held at the weekend of last week. Those seen at the event were the likes of Ebube Nwagbo, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Fathia Balogun, Mercy Aigbe, Uche Ogbodo, Adaora Ukoh, Bimpe Fayemi, Doris Simeon, Laide Bakare, Stephanie Linus, Mary Uranta and a couple of others.

The masters of ceremony at the event were the duo of Koffi & Matse, while music was provided by the one and only Omawumi Megbele, who as always did herself proud, showing off her vocal grace.

As is expected at events like this, stars and celebrities as usual would love to put their best fashion foot forward; were they able to?  We got a few pictures for your viewing pleasure to show how well they did. From the rotund & bespectacled (wearing the shades indoors) Uche showing off her red hair wearing that 'gorgeous' black outfit, to one of our favourite actresses in Nigeria, Fathia showing off that animal skin bra, to the now very trim Adaora Ukoh, not forgetting Ebube Nwagbo showing off her va va voom shape in that yellow outfit and  Mercy looking gorgeous wearing her blue contacts & more.

NADIA BUARI & JIM IYKE'S LOVE MATCH COULD IT HAVE ENDED SO FAST?

Wow wow wow, could this much celebrated love match have reached the end so fast? We had thought that the love boat was on stable waters and that the boat was going to reach the desired port. Only for us to hear that the love boat might have capsized and those on it thrown into the deep blue seas.

It's still so unbelievable any which way one looks at it, especially as the duo seem to look good together. Or is it that Jim's new faith might be affecting or might have affected the relationship?

Would we be seeing a reconciliation after much consideration or it would just turn out to be a case of another one's bite the dust? Especially with Nadia deleting all pictures of her & her beau from instagram. We would see as the days go by anyway.

Although Jim has come out to debunk the tales of impending nuptial, one still feels that something magical can still occur between the 2 now former lovebirds.

Just another sad love song kinda off sha!!!

NOLLYWOOD AT 20. THE ICONIC NOLLYWOOD EVENT. SPONSORED BY THE FG

GENEVIEVE NNAJI

RITA DOMINIC

DAKORE AKANDE
Wow! So Nollywood is already 2 decades old. It was like yesterday when it all began and now it has become a giant. In fact in terms of production the number 2 in the whole world after Bollywood, in fact the almighty Hollywood is 3rd. The industry has given a lifeline to many who otherwise might not have amounted to anything. It has made millionaires and celebrities out of many also and it has provided entertainment and fun to many,  jobs for many others. For the nation, it has been the perfect brand ambassador, at least helping to bring positive attention to the nation.

So in recognition of the positives, the industry has brought the way of the country, the Federal Government, led by his excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, who is most probably the first President in the history of the country to fully recognize and appreciate the industry. Hosted many of the industry practitioners to a state banquet. Date was Saturday, March 1, 2013, Venue was the State House (Federal) Marina, Lagos. Time was from 7PM. The President though having a very tight schedule, flew back in that late afternoon from a visit to Cote'D' Ivoire.

The gigantic marque was serviced by 2, 500kva Generators, which carries about 30, 4 Horse powered air-conditioners amongst several other things That's apart from the massive industrial air-conditioners directly connected to it, with vents. The fantastic event was managed by a subsidiary of the owners of the marque, called 'Blu Victoria Turnkey Events''. Truth be told, they did excellently well.

STARS & GOODWILL RAIN DOWN AT HALIMA ABUBAKAR'S THE MISTRESSES PREMIERE

HALIMA ABUBAKAR

HALIMA ABUBAKAR & BENITA PETERS

BENITA PETERS

The mistresses a new film from the stable of Halima Abubakar's  ModeHouz premiered to a loud bang! This weekend. The d-date was Sunday, February 24, 2013, the venue of the premiere was the prestigious Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, with that fantastic view of the lake or is it the lagoon at the back.

This is Halima's first major production, and on the day, many of her colleagues also in the make believe world (by that we mean fellow thespians- actresses, actors and also producers/directors) came out to celebrate and rejoice with one of their own; also in attendance were friends and fans and as usual the press (publishers, bloggers, journalists) without whom no event is complete.

It was a beautiful occasion we must say, the lady of the moment Halima Abubakar, who not too long ago was honored as an Ambassador of peace by the UN, was the cynosure of all eyes. The gorgeously shaped one and talented one at that, must have planned her wardrobe to the t, as she had a wardrobe change all of 3 times. 1st was a very slinky, long slithering silver number, it was like molten silver was poured on her and then left to cool off. The outcome was that it just formed on her delightsome body, leaving just a slit on the left leg, which showed her beautiful silver spike shoes, truth be said, she really looked cool. For her 2nd outfit of the day, she wore a creation by one of the designers that showcased on the night.  It was another beautiful outfit by Alabi Couture by Meg Alabi, it was sheer on top and gold bottom and she finished off the look with a pair of black pumps with gold studs on it. Her final change on the night, had her in a red lace dress by another designer that showcased on the night Azam Couture. She finished off the look with a gorgeous pair of silver shoes.

It wasn't just about the premiere alone, it was also an opportunity to show a little kindness to the less privileged. Halima known to be very charitable at heart, made sure to tell all to donate their widows mite in support of charity. The event master of ceremony was none other than Toni Payne, who was supported in the background by Cornell Udofia, the publicists to many stars. Opening prayer was done by Hakeem Rahman, while the national anthem was led by the cute Kefee, we totally love how she and husband were just cooing into each other's ears , sharing those sweet little nothings we think. Comedy was by Danny b, an hilarious son of the gun, who gave a good account of himself, musical interlude was by Honey B, Jaywon & there was this trio of young kids, that thrilled all to high heavens. It was fantastic!

A few of the guests and colleagues later gave glowing reviews of the person of Halima Abubakar, the current president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Ex-beauty queen Ibinabo Fiberesima, described Halima as a good person, a rallying point and love personified.  Mr. Prolific and MD of GrandTouch Production 'Chico Ejiro' added that Halima is 'Miss Dependable' and a great person.  Basorun Dele Momodu, the Publisher of Ovation Magazine & also a former presidential aspirant, who had to cut short his very busy schedule to honour the actress, said Halima was a good person and that was why he had to fly in at short notice to show support.

Like we said before, there were 2 fashion showcases on the night, 1st to showcase was Azam Couture and then was followed much later during the event by Alabi Couture.  The event venue was packed full with delightsome people and some of those we saw were the gloriously delicious 'Benita Peters-a very supportive friend of Halima, there was also Susan Peters who was looking very slim and came in royal purple, Oge Okoye wore a silver bandage dress, Tana Olulana too wore a beautiful grey/silver nos, Marian Keturah, the delicious Liberian actress came wearing a sheer black number looking unbelievably sexy, Mercy Aigbe wore a stripped black and white ensemble, Ufuoma Ejenobor, who not too long ago dropped a baby came wearing a black outfit, looking as ravishing as ever, Doris Simeon favoured red, seems like it's her best colour, Iyabo Ojo was in a pink dress, the Aneke twins showed off their legs to maximum effect in their short burgundy outfits. Ex-MBGN 2011 Sylvia Nduka who is a member of the cast wore a black number that had silver appliqué on the side, model hunter and ex-beauty queen Princess Chineke was also in the house looking gorgeous. Others that we saw were Jaywon, Loye Amzat, publisher News of the People, Alariwo, Chico & Joy Ejiro, Mary Uranta, Fareeda, Amaka Ononibaku, Agbaje Abiodun, editor of CityPeople Adeboyin Okeshina, Mike Osagie, the entertainment editor at ThisDay Nseobong Okon-Ekong, Bobby Michael, Saeed Muhammed, and many others.

2 of the casts were not around. Yvonne Nelson missed her flight so was unavoidably absent, so also was Moyo Lawal, who was on call on the set of another film. In all, it was a fun-filled evening, amidst back-slapping  & camaraderie. Everyone who saw the preview of the film commended the production quality & the acting, saying it was 1st class, and they all can't wait to see the full length film.

We were at the event live! So here is the out and about for your viewing pleasure. All the pictures were personally taken by Abiola Aloba, for Maestro's Media. Use without our permission is frowned upon.

The lovers party, which we hear is going to be an annual package on every lovers day, had many people in attendance. As usual there were loads from the Nollywood where Chico is very well respected, we saw Fred Amata & his new beau of inestimable value, Mor Okonkwo, there were also many other Nollywood couples, Segun Arinze & wife, Ejike Asiegbu & wife, Tony Umez & wife, Emeka Ossai & wife, Zik Zulu-Okafor & wife, Fidelis Duker & wife and several other couples.  Delicious looking Monalisa Chinda came alone, she was dressed in a sweet black outfit and finished it off with a nice Christian Louboutin pumps, Benita Nzeribe was around also, our gorgeous friend Halima Abubakar came with a very gorgeous friend Benita Peters, Tricia Esiegbe-Kerry was also around, Chidi 'GQ' Mokeme was also in the house as were several others.

It was a combination of music, jokes & lovers game for couples; lovers game was won hands down by Tony Umez & wife, who seem to know every little details about themselves. It was a beautiful evening and well packaged event.  Chico's wife, Joy was up and about making sure everything went well. Drinks were supplied by Veleta, apart from the several bottles of wine & champagne on the tables, so every one had unbridled fun.

There was musical performances by the likes of delectable Seyi Shay, Tiwa Savage, Cameroonian bombshell Ashley Stephanie had a glorious performance, she gave a good account of herself, Mandy 'the comedienne' & Elder O, a fantastic comedian we coming across for the first time kept everyone laughing all through the show.

UP CLOSE & PERSONAL WITH THE FAST RISING MOVIE STAR- BEVERLY NAYA

Truth be told. We are in love with Beverly Naya. She epitomizes all that we desire in a superstar in the making. Gorgeousness, good attitude, talented, unbridled passion for the craft and a great, but still evolving fashion sense. To crown it all, she's witty and highly intelligent. In this chat, she allowed us into her world and points us to a future she desires. Enjoy as you read! We believe, she has already captured 2013 & you 'll soon see why we believe that.
BEVERLY NAYA

MANY ARE OF THE OPINION THAT YOU ARE ONE OF THE NEW FACE OF NOLLYWOOD & BY EXTENSION THE FILM INDUSTRY. HOW COME THERE'S SO MUCH EXPECTATION CONCERNING YOU?

I think its because I have worked extremely hard to be where I am today, my belief in myself and my abilities has also inspired this. There is a high expectation of people who exude signs of diligence, dedication and passion. To others, such individuals instinctively represent people with a bright future ahead of them. That's probably the reason, I can do nothing other than thank God.
HOW & WHEN DID YOU CATCH THE BUG FOR ACTING?

I'd say I caught it whilst doing my A Levels which was at seventeen, that was when I became the first student in eight years to obtain a full mark distinction for my performance in Stoning Mary by Debbie Tucker Green. That is definitely when my passion for acting intensified, till this very day. So far it has been an amazing journey, it can only get better.
THE OLD NOLLYWOOD SEEMS TO HAVE A FEAR OF THE NEW & UPCOMING NOLLYWOOD ACTS LIKES OF YOU & URU EKE ETC. DO YOU THINK THIS SEEMING FEAR IS JUSTIFIED IN ANYWAY?

I believe that if one is comfortable and confident in themselves and achievements there really is no need to be intimidated or threatened by anybody else. I am proud of a lot of our older actresses because they have achieved so much, and hence paved the way for the new actresses, so in that respect there is absolutely nothing to fear.
HAS THE NIGERIAN FILM INDUSTRY BEEN A DISAPPOINTMENT? OR HAS IT BEEN HOW YOU HAD EXPECTED IT TO BE LIKE?

I feel that I have coped well, the Nigerian film industry is definitely better than I imagined. Our industry is continually growing, and I feel it can only grow stronger and more lucrative for all of us.
HOW MANY PRODUCTIONS HAVE YOU BEEN IN SO FAR. AND HOW HAS THE EXPERIENCE BEING LIKE?
I have shot about ten films, the majority of them are scheduled for cinema release in 2013. It has been a bit of a roller coaster ride, but I love the thrill, it just keeps getting more exciting.
WITH YOUR ACCENT & ALL, WON'T THAT BE A CHALLENGE FOR THE PRODUCERS. WON'T YOU BE PIGEON-HOLED OR BOXED INTO PARTICULAR KIND OF ROLES?

BE AN ANGEL.LET US ALL HELP SAVE A LIFE!

She was one of those that helped in no small way to add laughter to the lives of many. Remember her hilarious role in the comedy series ''Fuji house of commotion''. She was very prominent in Nollywood, when her health could still permit then. Holding down many roles, that she interpreted so very well.

Now the one who used to be up and about is very ill, so much so that our collective help is needed. Perhaps, our little contributions here and there can be of help, and that help is needed most urgently.
In all, we hear that about 6 million Naira would do it. So just like you all did before, let's shower on this soul, that same milk of human kindness. ALL WE ASK FOR YOU TO DO IS DONATE, YOUR WIDOWS MITE. Collectively we all can make a change. It's a human life that's involved here, it might be a contribution towards your own future too.

Let's all gather to SAVE NGOZI NWOSU.  We hear her health situation is Kidney & heart related.  Account details for donation is as follows- NGOZI NWOSU, Gtbank, account number-0052851673.

JENIFA (OLUFUNKE AYOTUNDE AKINDELE) PICKS MAY 26, 2012 FOR WEDDING

Funke Akindele is undoubtedly one of Nigeria's most loved Nollywood actresses, she especially endeared herself to many with her portrayal of the hilarious wannabe in Jenifa and the Return of Jenifa. Some have also gone on to say that the film is one of the highest selling Nigerian films of all time.

That's not news, what's news is that another Nollywood wedding is in the offing. Apparently some have made up their minds that 2012 would not pass them by. So come Saturday, May 26, 2012, the deliciously sweet and very well-mannered actress would be getting married, although it would be the engagement and traditional wedding in May, the white wedding would be upcoming at a date in December of 2012.

And who is the lucky dude? His name from our findings is- Kehinde Oloyede, a Nollywood outsider, said to be in his 40's. The actress and her dude her said to have been dating for quite a while now and only just decided to formalise their relationship very recently, he is said to be into Property and Estate Management and has done very well for himself.

Olufunke Ayotunde Akindele, who by Saturday, May 26, 2012 would have become Mrs Kehinde Oloyede, would be 36 years old this year, born August 24, 1976 in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

We pray that God would make that day a success. Amen!!!

AMAA AWRDS 2012- COUNTDOWN BEGINS

The journey towards the most prestigious & most credible film awards in the whole of Africa has begun in earnest already. The Organizers’ of the AMAA awards had the nominees’ night recently in Banjul, Gambia. The Gambia like the country is majorly called, is the smallest country on mainland Africa and with a population of just 1.7 Million welcomed many top film stars, celebrities etc to its shores recently. They were happily received by the crème de la crème of Gambia and fans. And from the little snippet we got, we heard all who came had the best of fun. There were 328 entries from all over Africa vying for the AMAA this year. And at the Nominees night the shortlist of those to vie for the prestigious AMAA were announced. We will announce a full list of the nominees, as shortlisted in Gambia in our next post.

The chairman of the college of screeners, had announced prior to the Nominees night that, AMAA regional offices in Lagos, Accra, Johannesburg and Nairobi received 328 total entries as follows: short film- 88 entries, documentaries- 57, entries from Africans in Diaspora- 43, animations- 6 and 134 features films from Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, Namibia, Guinea, Senegal, South Africa, Kenya, Cameroun, Uganda, Algeria, Egypt and Zimbabwe among others.

Over 20 films were submitted from Ghana including indigenous films. For the first time, AMAA received 6 indigenous films from Ghana.

On the main reason behind the choice of Gambia as the host country for the nomination party- the head, Business Development at AMAA HQ- Miss Naomi Lucas had this to say- the choice of Gambia this year was to offer a new experience for celebrities and motion picture practitioners to explore the beauty and splendor of the West African country that had become one of the most important tourist destinations in the world.

“Many of our people are used to going to Europe and America for events and they know little about this beautiful continent. One of the objectives of AMAA is to unite Africa and celebrate our diversity.

Previous nomination events have been held in South Africa, Ghana, Kenya and Burkina Faso,’’ she concluded.

The beautiful event- Nominees night happened 4 days ago- March 17, 2012, and we have pictures of those who added colour to event and made it a fantastic occasion.

 Enjoy!!!!!!!!
