OUT & ABOUT AT THE FABTASTIC! FAB NIGHT OUT 2012

As busy as last night was, with so many A-class event happening all over the town. The FAB Night out 2012, still delivered on my counts. The venue of the event was The Landmark event center, along Oniru Road, Victoria Island. On getting there, we knew immediately that it was going to be a very big night. If we are correct, this is probably the biggest FAB Night in the series ever. The venue, was so well decorated in black and white, it was like we were in a dream land in one of the Arabian night series. Well packed and well decorated round tables for the A-class guests that were expected.

Security was on point, invitation cards were inspected, tables allotted and guests were led to their tables by the very gorgeous hostesses that dotted everywhere, just in case you were thirsty, there was a bar on the side preparing fantastic cocktail using Jack Daniels as the base, the JD company were one of the event's supporters. Though the event scheduled to start at 6pm didn't start on time, we think it kicked-off at about 8pm, many who came looking gorgeous, waited anxiously for it to begin.

We saw many guests, that included the day's co-host- Bright Okpocha, AKA Basketmouth, who came in looking very dapper, with his adorably gorgeous wife in tow, we saw Ayo Finnih, Karen Young, Omotoke Makinwa, eye-popping Toni Tones in that sheer piece by House of Nwocha, Isoken Ogiemwonyi of Obsidian, Ghanaian designer Deborah Vanessa, Omowunmi Imokhuede, Lola Odu of Lo Lavita, Ojy Okpe, the delightsome Liz Yemoja, Vicky Heldan, madly gorgeous Osas Ighodaro, ex-miss Black USA 2010, MD of Sahara Grp, Tonye Cole, red-hot Seyi Shay in that red-hot,polka-dotted Tiannah styling number, Joan Okorodudu, founder of Isis Model Agency & NNSM, former Best Model of the World, Olubunmi Ademokoya, Franka Asindi, editor of Complete Fashion Magazine, Olayinka Fashola, creative director at MOOFA, Beverly Naya, Isi Atagamen, Kunbi Oyelese, ED at POLO Ltd, Jennifer Obayuwana, Eku Edewor, Dolapo Oni and so many others.

2 FACE IDIBIA GEARING UP TO HOST WINTER WONDERLAND PARTY

Africa's best Tuface Idibia is set to host thousands of kids this year to a most superlative Christmas Party ever.

Festive seasons in Nigeria is usually geared towards the adult with no well thought out celebratory events planned for the kids, 2face in conjunction with BM EPIC MEDIA and NOW MUZIK En.Core would like to change this perception by creating a spectacular Winter Wonderland celebration.

The Winter Wonderland theme party is entering its 3rd installment of fun-filled holiday celebration that's geared towards kids between the ages of 2-12. This year promises to be even more amazing with international music artiste 2face hosting 500 children at 10 degrees event centre, Oregun, Lagos on the 18th of December, 2012. 2face Idibia who is scheduled to host the event was quoted saying, “Providing a form of servitude to children especially during the festive period is the little way of him giving back to Nigeria’s future generation” and Deborah Ronke Apampa, (a UK-based TV personality and partner at Barnes & Molby) expressed her excitement by saying, “It gives me a great sense of fulfillment to create excitement for children on this special occasion”.

2face and some of his invited friends will be making guest appearances at the venue to help with the soiree along with Santa Claus, UK’s number 1 children’s party entertainer- OBC Party Saints, and characters from Flaming Fun UK; aside from all these every child will be accorded star treatment and positioned for photo opportunities with known TV/Radio personalities, Comedians, Actors, Musicians and other celebrities. There will also be a plethora of seasonal winter effects on ground like 'snow', 9 foot tall 5 foot wide elves, amusement park rides and goody bags to truly make it representative of the winter holiday season.

WEST BROMWICH ALBION DEFENDER CAUGHT WIPING ASS WITH WAD OF £20 POUNDS

Liam Ridgewell has had to explain his foolishness after being caught wiping his bum with wads of £20 Pounds notes in the toilet. His excuse after he was caught was that the shot was taken to wind up a friend who had won a bet and that picture was not for public domain.

The picture according to Liam was taken 8 months ago in the privacy of his home ground. He has since apologized for any offence the picture might have caused.

NIGERIA'S NEXT SUPERMODEL 2012- ALL HAIL THE NEW QUEEN OF THE CATWALK

ELATED FAVOUR LUCKY IN HER NEW CAR
At just 14 years old, Favour Lucky has the world laid bare before her. The tall teenager at about 6 feet is already, and that's if all works out well , on the way to super-stardom. Some are already of the opinion, that the heir-apparent to Oluchi Orlandi's crown as finally arrived.

She emerged the new queen of modeling in Nigeria at the recently concluded NNSM 2012, amongst the 23 that competed for the same crown. It was a fierce competition, 3 of those who competed came in from the UK, the US & Canada. But at the end of the day, the judging panel, made up of the likes of Deon Redman, a top South African Fashion show producer and model scout, Walid Attalah, top Lebanese Couturier, known world over for his unbelievably gorgeous outfits, that cost millions of dollars (We heard reliably that he would soon be opening a store in Nigeria), top fashion icon, architect of note & philanthropist, Princess Fifi Ejindu, fashionista extraordinaire and renowned wellness advocate, Dr Vivian Oputa, the founder of Isis Model Agency and main organiser of the NNSM, Joan Okorodudu, Editor, New African Woman Magazine, Regina Jane Jere, Samer Ratta, the Executive Editor of Moda Style, one of the biggest fashion magazines in the world & Jemma Ford, a top representative of FTV, who came in from South Africa, were all convinced beyond any doubt that Favour Lucky was the one deserving of the crown and they all unanimously awarded her the crown.

Favour Lucky, born February, 1998, meaning she would be 15 very early next year, would use the next one and half years to learn the nitty-gritty of the modeling world, so as to better prepare her for the grueling world of international modeling. 2 unbelievable names for just one person- Favour & Lucky. Seems like the name has done her unbelievable good. For emerging the winner, she went home with a brand new car, a Kia Rio, keys and car were delivered to her immediately. The young winner already has her work well cut out for her though. Yes she can't work as much as she would want now, because of her age, she must be 16 before she can go all out, but she's already engaged by L'Oreal Paris in Nigeria, through their  hair brand Dark & Lovely for some work. Favour, was not the only winner on the night, Olubunmi Ademokoya, who is Isis Model Agency, biggest fish, having modeled round the world, Istanbul, Johannesburg, Cape Town, London, Washington, New York, Paris etc, she was the former 'Best Model of the World at a very early stage in her career, and was also a winner on the day, she got a brand new car, a Chevrolet Avio car and $3000 dollars gift and would be going on an all expense paid trip to Spain, Milan & Paris. Other winners on the night, were Jessica Okpo from Cote'd ivoire, who won the crown of Africa Next SuperModel  & got $2000 dollars, and an all expense paid trip to Paris, France. Flavinia Matata, from Tanzania was declared Africa's Most Outstanding Model of the year 2012. Princess Fifi Ejindu, need we say more about her, got a recognition award as Nigeria's Style Icon of the Decade, while Caleb Eguenu, was also recognised for his Charity Works.

It was a great night, the venue of the event- Oriental Hotel, was packed to the brim, we believe there were over a thousand guests at the event, we saw the likes of top designer Ngozi Nkoloenyi, Ronke Ademiluyi, founder of the Africa Fashion Week London, designer extraordinaire Data Okorodudu of the JD7 fame, former Miss Nigeria 2004 to 2010, Eme Maya-Lawani, MD of Studio 24, Abuja, Chris Oputa, several of the MBGN Queens, Publisher of FAB Magazine, Akinjide Babs-Familusi, Club owner Ruby Dabbour of Caliente(they organised the after party), top South-Sudan supermodel in the making Ajok Kuol-Manyang, Samantha Dollar, CEO of Zohi Taglit, upcoming star actress Beverly Naya, young upcoming designer of note Yinka Fashola of MOOFA Designs, CEO of E24/7 Biodun Kupoluyi, the Consular General of the French Embassy, the CEO of Bouygues Construction & several of their directors, top execs of TotalFina/Elf, FTV crew, Associated Press crew, Reuters crew, CEO of FTV Africa, Russell Connolly, Benjamin Nweke and so many others.

This is probably the biggest NNSM ever done so far, in terms of budget, coverage, number of guests, sponsorships and supports, gifts etc and they must be commended for a job well-done.

The night's host was Brian Okpara, former Mr Nigeria.

iROKOtv's 1ST BIRTHDAY

It was just a year ago. When it was launched on December 1, 2012 and it has gained so much ground and made the founder a multimillionaire.

iROKOtv, dubbed by media commentators as the “Netflix of Africa”  celebrated its first birthday 1st December 2012. iROKOtv is Africa’s largest online platform for streaming movies and has invested in building the world's largest library of Nollywood movies over the past year, owning licences to more than 5,000 titles. Lovers of all things Nollywood can watch movies, for free, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Launched on 1st December 2011 by Jason Njoku, Founder and CEO of iROKO Partners, which also counts the popular online music platform iROKING among its suite, iROKOtv has grown rapidly over the past year, recording over 800,000 registered users in just eight months, who are tuning in from over 178 countries across the world. Since launch, iROKOtv has recorded almost 50 million plays.

Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan recently said of the Nollywood industry, “these are the people who market this country positively in African countries and even outside Africa and even in the Caribbean, where they appreciate Nigeria because of Nollywood.” iROKOtv has played a crucial in role in bringing Nollywood to the global audience and, following an investment by US hedge fund and Facebook investor Tiger Global, iROKO Partners was able to open offices in New York and London, two of its largest markets.

Aside from transforming the way Africans and the Diaspora access Nollywood, iROKOtv is also changing the Nollywood industry for its producers by opening up a new revenue stream for them. Prior to iROKOtv, producers would find their movies online but received no payment for this and lost out on thousands of dollars. Now, they work with iROKOtv to license their movies and stream their content online legally.

Jason Njoku said “We’ve had an awesome first year at iROKOtv and we’ve got great plans in the pipeline for 2013, including adding more films to our library and growing our global audience. Our first year has seen us bring Nollywood to the Diaspora, whose thirst for movies seems unquenchable. Our biggest markets are in the West, dominated by the US and UK. However, in 2013, we will be focusing our attention back on Africa and figuring out ways we can bring this awesome content to new audiences.

"Our business is incredibly simple; African stories, by Africans, for Africans and we hope to continue this mantra for many more birthdays".

WHITE OR BLACK- WE LOVE KIM K

When Kim Kardashian gets it right we do love her to bits, so much so that we think we understand why Kanye might be so smitten by love.

The black outfit is a sleeveless Valentino jumpsuit, that she wore in Miami, Florida recently, while the white one was worn in Kuwait more recently and it caused a lot of sensation because of the cuts, especially as Kuwait is a very conservative Country.
IN MIAMI.............

IN KUWAIT.............

THE QUEEN & HER SOUTH-SOUTH GOVERNOR

Just like they went all out to deny our story the last time, we know that they would do their very best to deny this one again. But we know the truth and those in the know also do too.

This queen's many dalliances are of the legendary kind. She's been in and out of relationships so much so that we know that very soon, she would either write a book about her escapades or she would go around the world to give lectures on how to deal with gullible men and come out of it looking like 24 carat gold. We won't bore you with her past, because that's like giving out too much, but her latest love is the Chief Executive Officer/Chief Security Officer of a oil producing State.

Her main man is in dire straits, licking his wounds silently and in shame after being dealt with and left lonely. Madam queen doesn't give a damn at all, she now stays at the new place in Ikoyi, which the Governor got for her. Incidentally, the main man (broke now and managing his life) we hear is still so much in love with her, but cannot anymore cope with her expenses, is still waiting in the wings, peradventure madam might have a change of heart one day and come back home.

EMMY COLLINS GETS SET FOR A FASHION WORKSHOP-TITLED LETS TALK FASHION, NIGERIA

London based Nigerian designer- Emmy Collins has decided put his money where his mouth is. His idea is to help some upcoming, but very talented and creative designer to fulfill their dreams. Many just have the God given talents, but don't know how to go about turning the talent into a profitable venture. With this upcoming workshop, it's a way the industry's veteran, hopes to help the up-comers, learn how do the right things and put the proper structures together.

Hear him-

I am excited with the number of young, budding and aspiring designers who have signified their interest in the upcoming workshop on fashion, where everything, including branding, product placement, seasons, business of fashion, manufacturing (a key factor in design and fashion), fabrics, who the buyers are, low end/top end of fashion, business plan, short and long term projections and so on would be disc. As a matter of fact, I will endeavour to touch on all the nitty gritty of fashion; the very glamorous and not so glamorous aspects of it and will also answer questions from participants. I clearly understand that one seminar is certainly not enough to cover all these aspects of fashion. However, I hope that this will serve as a launch pad to organising a monthly or bi-monthly workshop where Nigerians, with genuine knowledge and passion, will be invited to lecture participants on selected segments of fashion.

To those budding talented individuals who are saying to themselves, “Oh,I have the skill and the passion but not the funding“, I say to you please do not fret. With time the funding issue would be sorted out. Fashion should not be elitist so everyone with a natural aptitude for fashion deserves a shot. I believe Nigeria has the money to invest in all its great skilled individuals, or else I wouldn’t bother putting even a kobo of mine in this economy. All it takes is to have individuals who genuinely believe in fashion, and also have the necessary contacts, to approach corporate bodies and banks to present the case for talent sponsorship quite robustly. My reason for believing strongly that the funding is available is not far-fetched. Josh Samuel recently won a cash award of N4,000,000 (which is roughly about 16,000 pounds) at the recently concluded MTN Lagos Fashion and Design week. If a corporate body as big as MTN could put up such an amount of money, who can argue they cannot double it if they are convinced their money will be put to good use? One can rightly argue that the money is theirs but those of us in the fashion industry need to get our acts together in order to build trust and access these funds. With proper organisation, the fashion industry should, and could, access funding from the government via the Ministry of Youths and Culture.

I must say that manufacturing and quality of workmanship will occupy a prominent place on the agenda at this workshop because I often hear about designing, but not a lot about manufacturing. What is the dividend in designing garments that can’t be made or are made cheaply? There are a few standard tricks needed to ensure a garment is tailored properly, such as swapping from over-lock to French seams whenever necessary, or boxing in lining so it does not poke out from underneath the skirt, or dress, through the vent (which is the slit at the back of some skirts, dresses and blazers). These are some of the important things I would like us to get to at some point during the workshop.

Hopefully, some well meaning stakeholders will extend support for this workshop. I do not know it all but I believe there is something I can give and most of these, besides my talent, I got free of charge from a mentor, Mr David Jones, who believed in my talent right from the onset. It never cost me a cent to gain such knowledge from him and so I am never going to charge for imparting the same to others. It is only fair that I give back free of charge what I also got free of charge.

Also, I will come along with some of my pieces and as well recommend that the participants come with any pieces they have designed so we all can analyse the quality and highlight areas of needed improvement. One can always improve on one’s current achievements, which is why I would be bringing my pieces, and I will be glad to listen to anyone who thinks I need to improve on the quality of workmanship.
The workshop is absolutely free and refreshment has been arranged for 20 participants. While I am brainstorming on moving venue, as I believe the present location may not be adequate considering the number of interested participants I have received, the venue will definitely be on the Island but hopefully venues will be rotated between the Mainland and Island in the future.
The prerequisite to register is TALENT AND PASSION. I can’t teach those, you have to have them.

If you believe there is any sort of knowledge or experience you possess that these upcoming designers will benefit from, do not hesitate to message or tweet at me @emmycollins or send an email to info@emmycollins.com. This is about giving something, irrespective of how big or small it might be, to our country. Nigeria cannot afford to let its stars of tomorrow continue to grope in the dark for answers they could easily obtain from workshops such as this.

LET'S TALK FASHION, NIGERIA
EMMY COLLINS

POINT TO PONDER- YOU THINK YOU ARE SAFE, BUT......

We got this and it got us thinking. So we thought everyone need to know, just in case ''you all play the away game thinking its safe and okay'. You need to have a re-think. We must be safety conscious, or else we would become an indirect source of anguish and pain for so many others.

Hear this- "FUNKE is newly married to d Love of her Life & expecting a baby with her husband DAPO, and so she's having unprotected sex because that's her man.

DAPO however has a woman on the side, SUSAN, and he is having unprotected sex with her because she's a decent lady, loves "skin on skin", besides that's the only person other than his wife, he's having sex with, so he tells himself he is safe because its only two women..and he trusts them.

Decent Susan has her man, IK who means the world to her and she having unprotected sex with him because that's the man she intends to marry. She tells herself she is safe because she only has two men, Dapo a married man and IK....

But IK has an outside woman named CHICHI a young "good" undergrad he's also considering to marry, and is having unprotected sex with her because to him Susan is faithful so he tells himself its only two women he is having sex with so it cant hurt him. CHICHI on the other hand has no personal man, just friends or lecturers who assist her "ministry" when she has urges and IK ain't around.

Do you see where this is going??? Everyone thinks that they are safe when in fact they are so unsafe & at risk.
