THE BOXING DAY RING THAT ROCKED!

On the 26th December 2011 Boxing Day, Lagos experienced its first world class boxing match. The Oriental Hotel terrace, overlooking the night lit lagoon, rocked with Nigerian professional boxers and Nigeria’s finest in Hip Hop. The Christmas charity Boxing Day event was an explosive and fun filled night for boxing lovers, sports enthusiasts, couples, families, celebrities and dignitaries. It was an eventful night packed with punches, music and laughter.

Presented by Gold Fist Promotions, Boxing vs. Hip Hop Fight Night was the first of its kind to be initiated in Nigeria. A novel form of excitement and action, arousing and igniting national pride through the fine sport and art of pugilism was experienced, a grand introduction to the many to follow.

With the ring as the center stage, Fight Night was hosted by Ill Rhymes and Yvonne ‘Vixen’ Ekwere who spurred on five intense and exciting fights. Akeem Akinade and Kamoli Wahaab emerged as the winners in the lightweight categories. Female fighters Kemi Adebayo vs Karo were ushered in by celebrity managers for the night Muna and Kel with Kemi Adebayo winning the fight. Fatahi Goodluck won the welter weight fight and Godwin Okosun was the winner of the middle weight fight.

A star studded line up of live performances by Nigeria's finest in Hip Hop; Lynxxx, Show Dem Camp, W4, Eva, Skales, Chudie K and Los Boys, Efa and Incite all served up treats of fire in the ring in between fights to the crowd which had Honorable Commissioner of Youth and Sports & Social Development - Mr. Waheed Enitan Oshodi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroots Sports development – Prince Wale Oladunjoye, Alhaja Sinatu Aderoju Ojikutu-the first Female Deputy Governor of Lagos State and the Secretary General of Nigerian Boxing Board of Control-Mr Remi Aboderin, Olisa Adibua, Godwon, Koffi the comedian, Dj Caise, Matthew Ohio were also in attendance.

Boxing vs. Hip Hop Fight Night event was streamed live via www.hibuzz.com to all non-residents of Nigeria.

Fighting is a lot easier when your opponent isn’t Cancer- as a Christmas charity boxing event, the charities chosen for this glorious event were the MariaSam Foundation and Children Living with Cancer Foundation; a portion of the funds raised from ticket sales was donated.
