Lagos| Nigeria Since emerging winner of the maiden edition of the MTN Project Fame West Africa in 2008, Iyanya has continued to prove his remarkable talent to the media and his fans.
With the release of his recent singles “Kukure” and “South South girl” featuring Duncan Mighty, also the massive response by music lovers and heavy rotation on radio stations and clubs across the continent. Iyanya, in preparation of dropping a second album has released a music video for the track “Kukere”.
The music video showcases the cultural dance from the South South especially among the Calabar/Akwa Ibom axis. The video was shot in Lagos and Calabar where Iyanya grew up and started his music career. He's at the forefront of promoting the Etighi dance, an artform that has now gone viral since he released his Etighi-themed video.
Iyanya explains, “This type of dance from my people in the South South and precisely Calabar/Akwa Ibom is called the “Etighi” dance. There are different dances that Nigerian youths today love like Azonto, Alanta and I believe with the release of this video, the “Etighi” dance would become a favourite in Nigeria.”
The music video was directed by Patrick Ellis and produced by Detunes. The music video also has guest artiste appearances like Sexy Steel, Baba Dee, among other young artistes.
The dashing singer would be dropping his second album in a matter of months although his management is yet to disclose full details but we are told the album will feature top Artistes in the Nigerian music scene.
Iyanya is presently on a tour around Nigerian Universities and has stormed the Federal University of Technology Akure, Leadcity University and there are more schools to go.
Since his leap into fame by winning MTN Project Fame 2008 and the release of his debut album “My Story”, Iyanya Mbuk has worked with top artistes in the Nigerian industry like MI, DJ Zeez, Faze etc. He has also worked with major producers in the industry like TY Mix, Cobhams, ID Cabasa, OJB, Wazz Beats among others.
Iyanya has performed in various events like the New York Fashion festival 2009, 2011 MTN Power of 10, 2012 MTN Pre Valentine Gig and a host of other events.
Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk discovered his talent for singing at a tender age while singing in the Anglican Church, Calabar. He later started singing at weddings and soon enough was given an offer to perform regularly at Channel view Hotel Calabar. He came into national attention during the first edition of MTN Project Fame West Africa where he was announced winner on October 24, 2008.
